DVD Split: Whole DVD to HD?

DVD split instructions say you need to decrypt the entire DVD to disk before trying to create 2 DVD's out of it (using DVD Split) What settings do I need to use with DVDdecrypter or Smartripper to insure this?

I use DVD Decrypter. Just go into "file" mode and choose all files.
