So many useful filters but not able to find all of them!!

There are a lot of useful filters that have been developed (or anounced) in this forum, like Convolution3D, Simple3D, LanczosResize, Unfilter, Warpsharp, Decomb, MPG2Dec, and so many others (probably even some i have never heard about). The problem is that there is no easy way to find (for download) them because the URLs were posted in a thread, so if you missed that thread, you'll miss the filter. Even in the same thread there are different versions of the same filter. We should expect that the new versions have the same URL to download (and the filter packed with the same name), but may be not, complicating the task of finding the last version of a certain filter using the Search feature of this forum. And searching in the forum by the name of the filter may return lots of results, one per post where is mentioned.

Some of the authors have their own webs, like Donald Graf (aka neuron2), but most don't (as long as i know). And there is no "Avisynth filters" download section in www.doom9.org (it would be nice) where you could download all of them...

So... can someone who have all (or almost all) the filters put the in a web? I would do it if can manage to get them all...

But there is another option: to make an sticky thread (like the Avisynth Q&A) containing the URL to the last version of the filter or to the home page of the author, if he/she have one. The filters should be referenced by name, so if i read a post which says that the combination of a temporal smoother and the LanczosResize is very good to cleaning up noise and sharpening anime source, i can easily find LanczosResize if i want to try it, which is actually the reason why i have written this very long post ;)

For the last AviSynth 2.0.6 you don't need separate lanczos.dll, because the resizer is implemented in the avisynth core, like bilinear or bicubic resize.

The problem is that for some filters there is no website. They're just posted in the forum, so sometimes you have no chance to get the filter if you did not follow the thread. For others there is a website. For SansGrip's filter you can visit http://www.jungleweb.net/~sansgrip/avisynth/ Tom has also a website, but you have to know the name of the file. For example: http://www.trbarry.com/XY.zip where XY can be UnFilter, UnDot, TomsMoComp and many others that I don't know exactly. You can find the authors site in there signature. So if you know who wrote which filter this could help you. MarcFD wrote many, Vlad59 wrote at least Convolution3d. I apologize to all the great filter writers that I did not mention. This list is not meant to be complete.

PS - there is plenty of space on the server to store the files directly. I haven't done so, though, since that would be a pain to keep up with unless all the authors wanted to upload builds themselves.

I've made it and i'll try to keep updated for the Italian Doom9 Forum, maybe it can be useful (even if it's in italian ^_^'' ), maybe i'll make a better class division (the actual doesnt likes me, and sometimes is wrong)

More generally, it would be a good thing to re-organize the avisynth forum. Maybe a forum dedicated to filters could help.

Maybe there could be sticky posts with answers to practical problems such as :
- how to filter noisy VHS source
- how to filter (good/bad) TV source
- how to increase compressibility for an anime
- idem for a movie
- how to get rid of compression noise (for reecncoding)
etc...

In each of the post, we could start by describing the problem, giving an example with a short avi film (not a picture because it's often irrelevant), then anyone could post his solution (filters, settings, and why not - if possible - the avi result).

That's only an idea, i don't know if this is technically realisable, but the fact is that this forum is getting less and less readable. And this is all the more sad that it's may be the most interresting.

I hope the word "readable" has the meaning I want.

If you want to know about the latest versions of some filters, or some programs, there's no problem : you open the first page and you find what you're looking for.

The problem is when you're looking for things like those I described in my previous post. You can do a search, but you can find 3475 answers to your search, more or less related to your problem, sometimes too old. You can refine your search, but you may miss some good posts then. When I say Forum is less and less readable, I mean that, even with a search, you can sometimes (not always) find such a huge amount of posts that you can hardly do anything with. The number and the quality of filters is exploding, so is this forum.

That's why I propose to make sticky posts, classified by situations, and what to do in those situations, summarizing most common solutions. It could avoid some recurrent questions such as "filtering anime", or others.

It would be good also to make a post gathering all filters posted in the forum, with links, like Kaiousama's, but in english.

Please understand that I personnally don't really care if this is done or not : I see this forum at least everyday and I know it quite well, but when I think about newbies, I'm saying to myself that it must be very difficult for them, far more difficult than when I was myself a newbie, and it will become more and more difficult as time goes, because of its size and the importance it's taking.

Ah, and when I said a new forum could be created, I meant a forum to separate filters posts and technical posts on Avisynth, but since the two subjects are often linked, I'm not so sure it's a good idea.

You've raised 3 issues:

1. It's hard to find filters. Actually, I believe it is not so hard.

2. Need some guides for common tasks. Fine. But they should be doom9 guides, not forum stickies, IMHO. Why don't you write some?

3. The forum is becoming "unreadable". I have no idea what you are talking about.

I find that the use of Booleans can often lead to more desirable search results, things such as,

did AND not AND read AND filter AND documentation

For instance, simply searching for VHS AND noise AND filter AND capture yields answers to 3/5 of your questions, simply revising the above query to: filter AND noise AND anime brings up answers to your other question.

I'd also like to add my point of view to the "readable" thingie. I think that the power of the doom9 forum is that you'll find an enormous amount of discussion about various things. The posts may not answer your questions directly, but they often point you to the right direction and also give lots of food for thought. That's why I really like it here.

@Neuron9 : I don't write guides because :
1) I have no time for that
2) I use almost never filters because of my Duron600. I made 2 rips with filters, it turned out to take more than 24 hours/rip.

But I hope one day i'll have time and computer to make these, don't worry, I've already thought about it (the problem is that I'm not a "riiper master" like MarcFD or others... :D )

For 3. I'm sorry, I have no French-English dictionnary around me now. In French, the word was "illisible", "fouilli", but it was not pejorative, I hope you didn't take that like a personnal attack, it was not (really not) my intention.
