Hi,
For less than a year, I have been using Creative's 12x DVDROm in my computer and it has been fine for readings files on discs and playing various media including DVD, SVCD, and VCDs.

Now it won't play DVDs any longer. I can see the files and open up other files (such as text or mp3s)from that drive, but when I try to play a DVD with WinDVD, I get "Unknown format" message (although my associates are still the same). I also cannot rip DVDs to my hard drive.

If I couldn't use the drive for anything else, I would assume the drive is faulty. However, it seems to work for everything except playing/ripping DVDs.

Within device manager delete the dvdrom drive & reboot or refresh. It will rebuild its internal settings to factory or windows default. Might have to reinstall DVD software player you use if these delete doesnt fix it. Better late then never...
