View Full Version : subtitle problem in DVD2SVCD 1.10.1 & 1a ; 1.09.b3 works fine

16th November 2002, 20:10
I run recently into a subtitle problem, using DVD2SVCD 1.10.1 & 1a. My "standard" procedure is: process DVD into a big MPEG2 file (which I split it, afterwards, with M2-Edit Pro), with permanent subtitles, and convert from NTSC into PAL. I did process to date approx. 60 movies, with no glitch, majority of them using DVD2SVCD 1.09 b3. Recently, I went for 1.10.1, and, subsequently, for 1a versions; I like very much the "Use frame selection" feature, which is just great for my testing purposes (as far the subtitles position is concerned). As I said, after upgrading to 1.10.1, did "Godfather" serie. My problem appeared as subtitles were applied with a higher speed on the movie, such as they were a little bit ahead of the movie line at the beginning of the movie, and a lot (10-20 seconds, or more) ahead by the end of the movie. I tried various "tricks", to synchronize them (go for CD bin & cue files, change aspect ratio), but no success. In the end, I discarded the "NTSC to PAL" conversion, and all felt into place correctly. I assumed that the movies had some peculiar aspect ratio, or something, which prevented me to make them PAL. Yesterday, I tried "Bad Company", and the same subtitle mismatch happened. On a hunch, I unnistalled DVD2SVCD 1.10.1a (to which I upgraded, meanwhile), and installed 1.09.b3. Surprise, the result was ok. Subtitles were back where they belonged, NTSC to PAL conversion was on, etc. Therefore, I assume something in the 1.10.1 & 1a versions prevent the synch of the subtitles, when I do convert the movie from NTSC to PAL. Might be this a bug, or I do something wrong along the line? Logs for 2 tests I run on "Bad Company" with the 2 versions of DVD2SVCD are shown below. I saved all other d2s, ini, a.s.o. files for each test, so if anybody wants to look at them, please ask.

Problem posts go in the Basic section.

@UltimateDBZ

This may not be a "problem", but may be a bug into the new 1.10.1 & 1a versions of DVD2SVCD. Since in the Advanced Topics was the post for the beta testing of the 4 RC's of 1.10.1, I thought it likely to be in the same line of (post) beta-testing of the new versions.

I, personally, do not have a problem, since 1.09.b3 works fine with me, but others may have, or 1.10.1 & 1a may have...

Anyway, it's up to you, Ultimate...You r the moody, you call the shots...

It is most likely a bug. I'll look into it.

Thanks, man. BTW, using 'Frame selection' under the above mentioned conditions makes things worse: sound & video get out of sync, as well.

Best regards!
