View Full Version : Incorrect Chapters

I was happy to see that in the latest build the chapter problem was fixed. However I have done several tests now and it seems that the points at which the chapters are made are not 100% correct. I did some comparisons to what ChapterXtractor comes up with and this confirmed my thoughts. All DVD's I have done so far have perfect chapters when using the ChapterXtractor info.
Just as an example:
Movie: The others
DVD2SVCD comes with these numbers
[CHAPTERS]
Chapter0001=0
Chapter0002=323
Chapter0003=10495
Chapter0004=20805
Chapter0005=34608
Chapter0006=51633
Chapter0007=65126
Chapter0008=77156
Chapter0009=89206
Chapter0010=102209
Chapter0011=115758
Chapter0012=128385
Chapter0013=135745
Chapter0014=149710
Chapter-X-tractor comes with these
[CHAPTERS]
1=0
2=323
3=10511
4=20834
5=34658
6=51720
7=65228
8=77279
9=89348
10=102365
11=115925
12=128573
13=135947
Any suggestions are welcome

I think that's the GOP where dvd2svcd decides it'll cut the chapter..(not the exact frame per se)
read GOP Settings

patzik,
I have noticed this too with chapter selection, and it can be annoying when using chapters to mark the end/start points of SVCD's. I have downloaded chapterXtractor but am unsure how to use it, do you have a link to a site with an explanation or can you give a brief rundown here?
Thanks
Phan

Well, I have the same problem. The chapters arent EXACT. They start out good, but toward the end, they are early a few seconds. Now, i used to use chapter xtractor & vcdeasy, and the same results. So i never really thought much of it. Id love to get it proper though. Anyhow, you would use chapter xtracter to open the ifo file. Select all and copy. Then in vcdeasy for example, youd paste the info into the chapters section, like it shows here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/sefy/?id=chapters2.html
But again, from my personal experience, chapter xtractor/vcdeasy is still off.

I have used the internal ripping routines, and used the program so far only on PAL dvd's. If you need more info or logfiles then let me know and I'll post them

Ok, I've been analyzing this problem since my last post in this thread and three things is obvious:
1. The chapter positions in dvd2svcd is indeed incorrect.
2. The chapter positions in ChapterXTractor is also incorrect.
3. Switching back to the way chapters were extracted in 1.0.6 works perfect.
So, I'm fixing it so it works as in the good ol' days.

Using the chapter information from ChapterXtractor always worked great for me, but if you say it's incorrect I believe you, however it can't be much off since the chapters start at the same points as the original dvd.
Anyways, thanks for the quick reply, now I'm waiting patiently for build 1b to appear :D

True, ChapterXtractor was closer to the right frame than dvd2svcd was, but it was still wrong. The next version of dvd2svcd will be right on the dot.

While on the subject of chapters I noticed another anomly.
When playing the movie I noticed that both chapter 1 and 2 are the beginning of the movie. Looking at the xml file confirmed this, I guess this is another small bug, can you fix this too?
Added is part of the xml for info

When it's ready for release. I (as opposed to MS) do not make any promises on when to release new versions which never is uphold anyway.
