My dvd player doesn't handle pal output. I have a avi file that is in pal format. Is there a way to setup dvd2svcd to make it create ntsc format. I see you can check and force to pal but not the otherway around.I ran dvd2svcd in the standard manner with avi input and indeed did get pal format without setting the force pal.
Thanks

There is no easy way to do this with dvd2svcd. If you need more information, just do a search, this question has been asked and answered before.

Based on the searches I did then the answer is no. Is this correct?

Try making it as normal and then using Nero's SVCD or VCD template burn as NTSC. I do this all the time and never have issues. It could be my Pioneer or Apex players, but it's worth a shot.
If you are converting Avi's and the size is under 1gb for an hour I would convert them as VCD's instead of SVCD's. Like I said I have started doing this all the time and the quality is better as a VCD since the source is only so-so.
Converting it to NTSC can be done, but it's a real pain for the most part. Look in the Advanced forum for some posts by Bach. He had a simple way that works for some, but it may have been for converting the other way around. I forget.

Thanks for the tip on trying Nero. I never paid attention to the fact that Nero can handle AVi's. This is much simpler approach.

That is not what I meant.
I meant for you to convert it to a SVCD as normal in DVD2SVCD and then instead of burning the Cue/Bin files burn the BBmpeg_Muxed_File??.mpg using the VCD or SVCD template, but set it to burn as NTSC and not PAL.

Why not use the encoder in nero that handles avi's. I tested it and it appeared to work. Is it the quality of the encoder?

Do what you want, but I would never use Nero's free included encoder. Consider that it's an add-on for a cd-r burning program and not a dedicated well thought out conversion program.
If it works then that is fine for you, but we don't support it on this forum.

Can't you adjust the audio length using Besweet instead of WLA? That's what I do anyway.

Would you please explain how you do this in BeSweet?

Check out http://www.geocities.com/xesdeeni2001/StandardsConversion/index.html you should be able to modify your avisynth script as per the instructions there.

Would you please explain how you do this in BeSweet? Go get the new gui mentioned in the doom9 news. For some reason a lot of people do not know the new gui has a new wizard mode for people like me that don't want to deal with the old complicated interface. With the wizard it is really just a few clicks. There are a set of converion presets to choose from. Make sure to read the instructions as besweet has to be in its own directory "under" the gui directory.

Thx for all the responses. I have the newest gui for BeSweet but I don't see anything that would allow me to adjust the length. Any help will be appreciated.

How about the PAL --> NTSC preset in the BeSweet GUI?
I've done several PAL avi to NTSC DVD conversions recently. I strip the audio using Nandub, make an AC3 audio file using BeSweet with the PAL > NTSC setting enabled. Then for the video, I set DVD2SVCD to run but check the "edit as part of video encoding" on the Frameserver tab. When the script pops up, at the bottom I add:
bilinearresize(720,480)
assumefps(23.976)
Save it and let the encode run. Afterwards, run Pulldown on the encoded video file. Then I just use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make the disc using the pulldown'ed video and the AC3 I made. Works great, haven't had any problems so far, quality is very good.
