In TMPG there is an "animation adaptation" mode of deinterlacing in IVTC tab. It works on sertain real bad dvds like Utena TV and Urusei Yatsura. These DVDs were made with "telecining over telecined tape source (24/12fps source)" and I failed to make it look good even after i tried just about every decomb telecide/decimate setup out there. (every 3rd frame looks field-blended)

What TMPG does is just dropping appropriate field on deinterlacing and doubling height with bicubic. I dont know exactly how it choses which field to drop but it seems it just selects another one every time (even-odd-even-odd) it deinterlaces.

I have two sample clips so I can prove that.

@DG, can Telecide be improved so it would handle that pattern?

Make the clips available to me and I will look into it. Source VOB fragments are of course preferred.
