DVD Splitting - The only reliable way?

Please can someone help me before I turn into the eye twitching Herbert Lomb out of the Pink Panther Movies. I have been trying all the various methods suggested in this and other forums for >4.5Gb (backups?) where the main movie needs to be transcoded. I have reached the following conclusions -

DVD Decrypter > Rempeg > InfoEdit remux.

RESULT
Works sometimes but more often than not you get video freezing midway through the movie (very annoying).

DVD Decrypter > DVD2AVI > TMPG (with forced frames from InfoEdit) > InfoEdit remux as per instructions in the forums (Digital Video's guide looks the most comprehensive). I have followed Kenwood's instructions regarding the "Manual" selection of the second or later GOP key.

RESULT
Audio is always 2 or more seconds out of sync (tried on several now)

I have not tried the Authoring function in InfoEdit yet as it looks even more long winded than the others and (correct me if I am wrong) does not allow use of the original menus and uses the same remuxing process as the other two methods so what difference will it make?

I am thinking of ditching the idea of transcoding and just splitting to two discs in future - its just getting too frustrating unless anyone can help me with my authoring nightmare's

the easiest thing would be to get

dvdsplit by derrow

great program and definetly worth the $$$

The secret of a succesfull reencoding is not transcode thru a ID.
Use the Derrow'Guide transcoding PART of a movie.

you an also use the new feature in IFOEDIT that splits this into two DVD-r's under VOB Extras button. works every time for me, no problems yet. most of the times though, ignoring menus and extras and only concentraing on the movie VOB files, you should be able to fit this on a 4.7 dvdr without rencoding.

I don't waste time with that transcoding stuff anymore...its not a big deal to me if the movie is on two dvd-r's instead of one. if the movie is more than 2 hours I probably need a break anyway :)

I'm going to try out dvdsplit and see if it makes it easier...it appears to be perfect for this.
