Bitrate too high problem after pulldown.

I am following "IfoEdit & CCE guide" and I am having this problem with CCE transcoded NTSC DVD movies. The peak bitrate shoots up to > 11000kbps after I do pulldown. Before pulldown the peak bitrate is well below the specfied 9000kbps. This is kind of baffling because, bitrate should go down because of the higher framerate after pulldown. I tried without any arguments and with -prog_frames p argument with the same result.

As a result, Scenarist is complaining at the time of finalizing the DVD with a bitrate too high error. I had a similar problem with another movie earlier. I didn't bother to pursue the problem. I simply used TMPGenc and everything went smoothly. But I would like to avoid using TMPGenc.

Anybody has any idea how to work around this problem? Is there any other tool other than pulldown.exe available? I would appreciate any help.

Bps is bps is bps. If you are meassuring the bps with bitrate viewer, it does NOT calculate it properly when the pulldown flag is set (they said that they would fix this in their next release). You may really HAVE an excessive bitrate, but just never knew it until you loaded everything into Scenarist.

Tell us - what data streams are you including in your scenario? How many audio and their bps's (and their TYPE) and how many substreams, etc?

Bitrate will NOT go down after pulldown, because you are sending out the same data as you would at 23.976 (it's just that certain parts are repeated by the player).

Also, tell us what you are trying to do. The max bitrate for a DVD video stream is 9.8Mbps. The maximum total is 10.8Mbps for a DVD program stream.

i had/have the same problem as jbalakri. but im using DVDmaestro.
now im happy to hear bitrate wiever cant give a correct info for a file with pulldown flags. now i can stopp tearing my beard.

also how much should i calc for each subpicture stream. any one one have a good nr for this? :)

Jb what u want to try is unchecking the DVD Compliant box in the settings u know where zigzag and stuff is..then set max bitrate to 9000..with the compliant box checked i believe it still exceeds teh value of 9000...or it may be u are trying to add many audio streams which added up to your max encode bitrate exceed teh max bitrate allowed to be use to be dvd compliant...i had the problem too and reencoded without that box chekced and it works everytime..good luck.
