I am trying to encode some videos for my brother. He is working on a video tutorial CD-ROM for the PC. The project is for a sign-language class. Each video is less than 10 seconds long since each particular sign that is acted out is a seperate file. I have tried encoding the AVI source files he gave me to standard MPEG2 for a test DVD. I have used both CCE and TMPGENC using CBR and VBR encodes. The process will run through very quickly and output the video/audio files into files that are 0KB in size and do not play. There is nothing special about the AVI source files. They are simply uncompressed video at 720x480. Why won't any of these encoders produce a usable file? Is there a limit to how short an MPEG2 clip can be for it to work properly? The only other idea I had (which I would rather avoid) is to merge all the videos together in one long file and compress to MPEG2. Then just break them up using chapters when I author the DVD.
