I five passed star wars, but still see pixelation? Can anyone shoot some info?

I did searches and am so confused as to what exactly to tweek.There are SO many options, I am not sure what I need to do. I am using DVD2SVCD 1.1.0 and using CCE sp 2.5 to encode.

I was using Tmpgenc as I feel it looks a tad better but is To slow.Plus it freezes on me when I try to encode a movie that is 4:3 to 4:3. It only lets me encode in 16:9? Makes no sense..

I will post my log bellow if this helps anyone determine what settings I should tweek.

I mean, the movie all around looks great except for bright sceens and actions.Then I see bluring, pixelating. Blocks of some sort..

Any rate.. Can anyone offer some assistance. I encode at anamorphic NO borders. I hate doing 16:9 with borders. Such a waste of TV...

Your bitrate is too low for this kind of encoding. Did you notice that you wasted almost an entire CD? Your last CD contains only about 4 minutes of video. You've set it to four 800 MB CDs and for a 140 minutes movie like this the average bitrate will be around 2900. You should set Max. Bitrate on the Bitrate tab to 3500 and Max. Avg. bitrate to 3200, uncheck "Warn if total bitrate is too high" then encode again.

Also, remember that an anamorphic encode without borders added needs to process about 30% more video information than a 4:3 encode with borders added. The black borders in the 480x480 video will consume virtually no bitrate so there's more bitrate left for the video between the borders. In your case however, the full 480x480 frame contains video that needs to be compressed. You may still be unsatisfied with the results even with four CDs and the max. bitrate raised as shown above.

Unless you have a 16:9 TV and a standalone player that actually supports anamorphic SVCDs, I stronly suggest you stick to the 4:3 encode with borders added, encode to 3 CDs and be happy with the result. Otherwise it's really pointless because either the player or your TV will add the black borders anyway.

Thanks for the info and suggestions.. I actually will try this. My player plays the DVDs as anamorphic 16:9 with no borders. So I am going to have to test it at max birate at 3500 and max avg at 3200 DO I check min. avg at 1600? do I leave that alone. Also what should I set my birates at for the movie lengths itself in the disk birate section? Default? You never mentioned this?

Well, and you also have a 16:9 TV?

Only check min. average bitrate if you want to make sure that any of your encodes, regardless of the number of disks you specified in the bitrate tab, never uses an average bitrate below this. That is, you might end up with more CDs than you'd thought. So if you really, really always want to encode without resizing and borders added, you should probably check this option and set it to 3000. Experiment, encode a short chapter or use frame selection to pick a problematic sequence and check the results.

As for the individual movie lenghts: I'd simply use the defaults but set all CD sizes to 800 (fits a 700 MB CD just nicely with a little overburning). I personally use only 800 MB/90 minute CDs so I have all set to 900.

I tired to raise the birate on the MAX last night and rencoded starwars at 2 pass VBR CCE and it looked great but the DVD player would freeze up on me.. SO I thinnk I am stuck with the max allowed by DVD2SVCD...

And lately TMPGEnc keeps locking up on me, but thats for another subject and another section of the forum. I will stick with CCE for now..

I mean, I just got around to ripping The Fast And the Furious and I put 45 minutes on each disk (3 total) and it looks awesome... SO I think, I will somewhat settle for what I am gettng.

Can you offer any quality settings, would lower make fast sequences better? Like say 3?

Right, bitrates beyond the SVCD standard often cause problems on standalones.

As for the quality settings: I never fiddled with any advanced CCE/AVISynth etc. settings, just using defaults (make sure you use bicubic resize for best results, though). I'm doing everything at 4 pass VBR and always had great results.
