Subtitles with Ifoedit095/Vobedit06

Ok,i have come a long way.I Am working on backing up Pearl Harbor R2 on a dvd5. I have decrypted the movie files in file mode with DVDDecryptor.After that i downsampled them wit DVD2SVCD and extracted the AC3 sound.Now i want to include subs when i go author with IfoEdit 0.95.The log that DVDDecryptor made after the rip says that my wanted subs have id 0x22(nederlands).Now when i fire up ifoedit and load the vts_01_0.ifo i find the following concerning subs:

subPicture 1: English (2-bit rle) (ID: 0x20,0x21)
subPicture 2: Francais (2-bit rle) (ID: 0x22,0x23,0x21)
subPicture 3: Nederlands (2-bit rle) (ID: 0x24,0x25,0x22)
subPicture 4: Francais (2-bit rle) (ID: 0x26,0x27,0x23)
subPicture 5: Not Specified (2-bit rle) (ID: 0x24)
subPicture 6: Not Specified (2-bit rle) (ID: 0x25)
subPicture 7: Not Specified (2-bit rle) (ID: 0x26)
subPicture 8: Not Specified (2-bit rle) (ID: 0x27)

So i thought,hmmm i use VobEdit06 end demux the subpictures 0x24,0x25,0x22.But when i insert them in the author proces in ifoedit and hit start,the proces halts at 25% saying: To Many Frame Drops.

when i author with 0x22 only the authoring goes well and it plays perfectly on my stand alone,but after 1 hour of the movie the subs are gone.

Now what i dont understand is why subpictere 3 has also stream 0x24 and 0x25 assigned,while they are Not Specified.And that subpicture 3 also uses 0x22,whis is used by subpicture 2

The reason why i want to use VobEdit06 is that the subs are equel to the original,and they are always sync.I did all the above with Blade R2 and all worked fine,but that movie did only had on subpicture and 1 stream (0x22).

Does any1 knows what i am doing wrong?

I got exactly the same problem with Starwars: Attack Of The Clones. Also has 2 subtitle streams (0x24 0x25) and when multiplexing I also get "Too many frame drops" at 89% of the multiplexing process.

Haven't tried multiplexing with one subtitle stream yet, but that isn't what I want anyway.

Anybody has any idea what to do about this problem???

What pops up in my head now,is to load up vts_01_0.fo in ifoedit,do a strip stream with the vob extra button and just keep the audio i want and the subtitle stream.After that the substream will have 1 fixed id(i think)..Going to bed now,but i try it firts thing i wake up.

If any1 has a working way around please feel free to tell:)

I having the same problem with the silence of the lambs.
when i use 2 or 3 audio channels i heve the same error, but not with sub picture streams.

I think, the answer on your question depends on wether the movie has only one or more VOB-ID´s. F.e. "Dangerous liaisons" R 2 has only VOB ID 1, but multiple subtitle stream-ID´s (English 0x20,0x21, German 0x22,0x23,0x20, and so on) In this case it was sufficent to multiplex only the first stream ID number for each language (0x20 for English, 0x22 for German.

If your movie has more VOB ID´s, you probably have to split streams by VOB ID with VOBedit 0.6. After that you author with new Ifoedit 0.96 (currently in the prerelease area for download)and multiplex per title. If your subtitle ID for the first half (or title) is 0x24, then the stream ID for the second title is obviously 0x25. This is just a guess. Please let us know, if it works.

thanks for the idea.I dont excactly understand what u mean,but i am going to try figure it out.I've loaded the first vob in vobedit06 an checked the "Demux al subp streams" and "Split on new vob-id".When its finshed,i author the dvd with ifoedit and author all the subp streams from my language in it.

Is this what u where saying?

nah,what i did was wrong.I ended up whit 6 sub tracks of the wrong language.

But i was thinking;is there a way of "paste" 2 streams(0x24 and 0x25) together?

I had the same problem with 'i am dina' , a scandinavian film
reg 2....

I had done exactly the same as you and my problem is that
the danish subtitles is ( ID 0x21,0x22 ).

I got 2 .sup files from vobedit 0.6 and when i try to author it
with ifoedit 0.95 , 0.96beta1 the subtitles gots out of sync...

The picture , sound is perfectly in sync...

Searching the net for a utility which can merge sub 0x21 and 0x22
into one .sup file gave no result....

I hope that there are a solution , a lot of film has more than
one subtitle ID....

Please let the forum knows if you find a solution...

The story continues...I have stripped Band of Brothers to 1 pgc and downsampled it with cce.When i author it again i only have subs in the first episode.Second episode they are gone.The substream has value (2e,20).

I think SubRip can create only 1 .sup from the 2 subtitle IDs but all it gives me is subtitles droped too small / short. Any suggestion?

Hello Ripper....

I had the same problem , but after at while i consider to use
dvd2dvdr again , download from www.movie2digital.de , and that
solved my problem....

You need version 1.2.0...

I have only tried it with pal reg2 film and it works great....

What i do is the following...

Rip the whole dvd with dvd-decrypter to a iso image file...

Mount dvd image file with daemontools.

Install dvd2dvdr , i requires service pack 3 under win2000...

Start dvd2dvdr up , remember to have cce 2.50 sp installed as
standalone....

Dvd2dvdr is very selfexplaning..

Under setting choose not to authorized the dvd-drive...

Select the mounted dvd-drive , which deamontools had made for you.

You can now select the PGC , you want to rip...

Select the right option for the cce , and select audio tracks and
subtitles....

After more tries i had found out that if You want to avoid multiplex
errors in IFOEDIT 0.95 lower the maximum bitrate with ca 200 Kb/Sec.

Start the process , press go , and you will see that dvd2dvdr are
making celltimes.txt , .sup files , audio files....

Remember to use IFOEDIT as your authoring prog....

After a while depending on the size of the film , you will get a
Video_0xE0.NEW.M2V , this is the cce compressed film ....

Author a DVD with IFOEDIT , add movie , audio , sup and celltimes.

Bingo you now have a dvd , which for me always are in sync.....

Remember to copy subtitles color from orig dvd and paste it to
the newly authored dvd , remember to save it.

Get VTSsector and remove popup...

Make a image with imgtools , and burn with dvd-decrypter....

Success with ::::::

Black Hawk Down ( reg 2 )
Dina ( reg 2 )
Last Castle ( reg 2 )

+ 10-15 more....

Problem with :::: ( only one ).

Colleteral Damage ( reg 2 ) danish subtitles missing....

I am having the same problem with the Attack of the Clones and the . The UK distribution version only has English subs and I think the problem is down to identifying which subs are what. Ifoedit reports no less than eight english sub title streams -

ID 20,21
ID 22,23
ID 24,25
ID 26,27

If you use the Vobedit feature if demuxing by vob ID you end up with 2 files per ID, in other words 16 files of different file sizes. This is confusing as Ifoedit reports that there are 3 vob-id's in the main movie PGC. I ditched this course as transcoding two or three .m2v's is a pain in the bum.

Next I tried to find out what each sub ID was by trial and error with Ifoedit remux. All I want is the subs which translate what the alien gibberish - not the hard of hearing track and definitely not the directors comments stuff (yawn!). ID 20 and 21 looked the most likely candidates for keeping because of their file size (22 and 23 are the largest so these must be the hard of hearing tracks). If you ditch 22 through 27 then IfoEdit Authoring works fine.

In conclusion for all Languages -

The number of vob-id's in the main movie is not the problem. Just identify which type of sub you want and ditch the ones you do not need. It seems to be the multiple types catering for each possible user per Lanugauge that causes Ifoedit to crash.

Note to Sl1m - sounds like you should keep ID 24 & 25.

Just curios , but just to inform you , i had resently done
12 reg 2 film on the way i described , and they all works
flawless.....

I still have som prob with reg 1 film , therefore i could be inter-
esting if you could found out if dvd2dvdr would work with reg 1...

Even if your german is bad , the prog when you have installed it
are with english text.....

It seems that you have installed the program correctly...

Install ForceASPI 1.7 , you can find it under software download
and under the group support utils....

This might solve the problem with the missing ASPI Driver....

Try that and let me know....

I've tried DVD2DVD-R 1.2 and it's a fantastic app! Wonder why it's never been reviewed here? I used it to backup my precious copy of the Japanese suspense thriller Audition (Region 1 but with FILM/NTSC problems similar to many anime releases) and the results were amazing. I had just about given up on this DVD after trying everything (Ifoedit, DVD2SVCD, ProCoder), but this tool did it in one pass. I was able to re-integrate menus and special features (as specified in the Doom9 guides) with nary a problem -- perfect chapters, no stutters and/or audio sync issues.

Tommorrow I'll try it on Y Tu Mama Tambien which has its subtitles spread across 3 files.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction michaelvv.The aspi was installed succesfull and the program starts now.But when i input a dvd and select the options i want(like subs and audio tracks) and hit the go button,it says[code]The chosen HDD does not support files > 4 GB{/code]
Now i now it doesnt,but in the dvd2dvdr program i cant find a setting to adjust this.

Or do i have to adjust my OS for this ?

I must be a complete pain in the ass,i know.But help would be much appriciated:)

yep,it was ntfs.I have converted it now and the program is running.I will try The Matrix first,with dutch subs coz i wasnt able to get the subs in line before with dvd2svcd.I am curious what this program can make of it.

I had done +30 by now and i had only probs with braveheart reg 2.

The problem with american beauty is that the prog dvd2dvdr says that
it doesn't need any encoding but it's 56 MB over the limit 4700..

A Tip....

Before you author in ifoedit , check that the subtitles you need
to add has a realistic length , and it will work smooth...

DVD2DVDR can't extract every dvd's subtitle correctly , but almost.

Ok,first of all,i wanna thank you for ur amazing support:) .This morning i have finished The Matrix and it looked real good.For the first time since i have been encoding this movie,the subp stream is complety ripped by dvd2dvdr.So thats one goal i wanted to archieve.

Only prob is,that after some time the subs are out of sync.I have to figure that out,perhaps i can add some sort of delay in it.

Anyway,it looks things are going the right direction now.Tonight i will work with the Pearl Harbor R2 dvd,coz that was my initial question remember:) ? I have good hopes now it will work as smooth as with The Matrix.

What kind of subtitles do you use ( I'm using the danish )....

If have small problems on some Reg 2 DVD, with the english
subtitles , but only on one DVD ( Collateral Damage ) the danish
subtitles was gone....

Have also seen some problems with the dutch subtitles ( a few DVD ).

Hope you like dvd2dvdr , it's a amazing application....

PS! Never had problem with subtitles out of sync , but i haven't
tried the matrix , i could rent it to figure that out.

Ok,it seems i am all set now.I finally made a backup of Pearl Harbor R2 with subtitles,all movie long. Heres what i did;

I ripped the movie with dvd2dvdr,selected the video,audio and sub stream(0x24).
After the ripping and before encoding i terminated the program.Now i have the un encoded streams.I deleted the video and audio stream and kept the substream

After this i fired up dvd2svcd and used cce to encode the videostream(min 2000,avg 3000,max 5000,2 passes) and rip the ac3 audio stream(dont convert).After a little while(15 hours:p )i had my so wanted and beloved m2v file.Finally i got the celltimes from the original ifo and authored all with ifoedit.095 with the subs generated by dvd2dvdr

The result:a copy of the dvd with dutch subs and no out of sync fitting on 1 dvdr:) .

The reason why i terminated dvd2dvdr after ripping:yesterday i encoded the matrix with dvd2dvdr and i found out that the burned dvd freezed for a second at various scenes.Also i had a delay of subs wich became bigger during the movie(0.5-2 seconds).I will try this movie again later,but first i finaly free up some time to play the beta of c&c generals:D

You had success with DVD2DVDR, and I am trying to do the same.
What is the secret ? DVD2DVDR decrypting capabilities ?
I need to know If a need to decrypt again the movie I want to copy, or just substract the subtitle I need from the .VOB File.
With IfoEdit, everything works fine using DVD AUTHOR using my lowered bitrate movie and the audio. But when I add the subtitles I get the error messages.
I need to know if there anyway to substract the subtitles of my decrypted .VOB File ? or I need to start from the beggining decrypting with DVD2DVDR ?

nah,just put ur dvd in the drive and fire up dvd2dvdr.Select the dvd drive and choose the pgc with the main movie.Now select the video stream and the subtitle stream u need(u have to choose a videostream otherwise the ´go´ button remains grey).

Now hit the go button.The program will find the keys and decrypt it itselfs.After a while(some half an hour)when the ripping is complete and the encoding starts just terminate the program.On ur hdd will be now an m2v file and an sup file.Throw the m2v away and use the sup file to author it with ur own encoded file with ifoedit.

Hope u can sort it out now.

I installed FORCE ASPI, because it is needed for DVD2DVDR.
My movie (.m2v file) was made with tmpgenc, because I like the quality.
The audio was substracted from the .vob with vobedit and corrected with ac3audiodelay.
I have a spanish subtitle subtstracted with vobedit, because it is faster than DVD2DVDR to substract only 1 subtitle.

When I tried to make the first time the movie with IFOEDIT, using DVD AUTHOR, everytime I added subtitles, an error in the log window appeared and the .VOB were Video and Audio synchronized, but subtitles disappeared in the middle of the movie.
Now, after installing ASPI and using the subtitles using DVD2DVDR, when I DVD AUTHOR with ifoedit, there was no LOG Window Opened and No errors displayed.
The new .VOBS generated looks good, played with Power DVD, Audio and Video synchronized, but I can't see subtitles in Power DVD, because I don't know how, so, I am going to burn it to watch it in my Home DVD Player and see the results.
I will let you know if everything worked.
If everything work, I am going to try using the subtitles substracted using VOBEDIT... Maybe the problem always was the ASPI, because I did not have it installed.

Everything worked just great.
Now I have my movie with a great quality, audio synchronized and subtitles working.
In resume I did it with this:
DVDDecrypter with no splitting .vob.
DVD2AVI
TMPGEnc with VBR 2 Pass.
Audio extracted with VOBEDIT from the .VOB in HD. and corrected audiodelay with ac3delaycorrector.
Subtitles extracted with DVD2DVDR
DVDAUTHOR with IFOEdit.

I want to thank you, and Michaelvv for pointing us in the right direction.
I am going to try with subtitles extracted with VOBEdit, because it is faster to extract a subtitle than DVD2DVDR.
What I don't know is if DVD2DVDR it is a better decrypter than DVDDECRYPTER.

You have now the possibility to use network drives , and you
can select cce 2.64.01 encoder... ( better performance on P4 ).

I have only prob with BraveHeart Reg 2 , so if anyone successed
with this dvd please let me know....

The error is coming when i want to multiplex the movie with IFOEDIT.

Do you use the ac3 file , which are extracted with dvd2dvdr ,
when you author the dvd...

When i use this file , i never had problems with sync , both
subtitles and audio are in perfect sync...

Check the info.txt file to see what the delay time is , it's
located in the folder dvd2dvdr create...

No,i used the audio stream extracted by dvd2svcd.I did that coz the 1st time i used dvd2dvdr for ripping and converting,the movie freezed at some scenes.

I will try extract sub+audio with dvd2dvdr and the video from dvd2svcd and author it all together.will be done i 2 hrs orso.

You can extract AC3 with VobEdit.
I am using DVDDecrypter and watch the STREAM INFORMATION.TXT
You can see what the delay is.
I am using AC3 delay corrector and never have a problem with delay.
IfoEdit has problems to correct audio delay. Somebody explained this in this forum.

They seems to be correct , but on which dvd do you have the
problems , i haven't got apollo 13 yet.....

One 'red corner' i couldn't extract the danish subtitle out
so i had to be satisfied with the english...

In Apollo13 movie, the subtitles start synchronised, but later, the subtitles start to appear before the voice with a .5 delay and later a 1 second delay, and later with a 2 seconds.
sl1m explained this problem at the beggining of this thread.
I always check if subs are in sync.
I made the movie "Shawshank redepmtion" without problem, but apollo13 is giving me this out of sync problem.

i've tried this and the only subs i get is english.
here's what i did...
ripped with dvd decrypter. if i play the movie from the orignal folder with everything there, i can play the movie with the portuguese subs. but the movie is a bit to big to fit on a DVD5 so i stripped some audio streams and kept all the subs but now i if i choose the portuguese subs i get the english ones.
i once managed to get the portuguese subs to work but they were messed up. showed up blurred and in green color!!!! go figure!
so to avoy having to do all that steps with DVD2DVDR, i don't mind keeping all the subs. now... how do i do that???
any thoughts???

I am having the "Too many frame drops" problem when using the Author feature in combination with subtitles on some DVD titles.

In case the movie + audio files + subs are small enough to fit on one disk you can use the IFOEdit 'VOB extras' way to mux the files correctly. But remuxing with another M2V video file has not been very succesfull for me. (Audio synch problems).

Short before IfoEdit went dead a beta version 0.96b was released. I'd like to get my hands on IfoEdit 0.96 to test.... could someone sent me the program or a link? Thanks...

Cannot comment much on DVD2DVR as I have not used it much - I hear there are still problems with multi vob subs when remuxed with Ifoedit Author.

I have gone another route with these types of subs and have found it to be very reliable -

1. Rip the movie with DVD Decrypter in "Image" mode and create an .iso file
2. Mount the image with Deamon Tools 3.26 (http://www.daemon-tools.com/)
3. Extract the required video/audio files with DVD Decrypter from the Image
4. Extract the required sub files using Vobsub and create a new set of .sub files
5. Encode the .m2v file using preffered tool (I use DVD2AVI/TMPEG)
6. Convert the extracted .sub files to .sup files (required by Ifoedit)
7. Use Ifoedit authoring to create your new titleset as normal

Works everytime! even with the real nightmare titles like Star Wars AOTC. All instruction for above are in the Doom9 guides.

PS - I think you will find the only difference with the 0.96b was that it allowed mutliple titleset authoring - 0.95 works fine for the above and I would suggest you stick with that one as a fully released version.

least one film THE EDGE it now works perfectly with danish
subtitles , witch failed with dvd2dvd-r....
