IfoEdit 0.95 and Chapter positions being wrong

Hi All,
I've been using IfoEdit 0.95 to author some DVDs to backup some of my collection ;) Now the process I'm going through is pretty basic;- DVD Decrypter to rip to .ac3 and.m2v files; This also saves the chapter positions into a file. I then use DVD2AVI to framserve, and VFAPI to convert into something CCE can deal with.
I re-encode with CCE to a file small enough to fit onto a DVD-R.

I then use IfoEdit 0.95 to author a new dvd, importing the m2v stream from CCE, the ac3 stream from dvd decrypter, and the chapter positions from dvd decrypter.

It all works great, no sync problems (except for -ms delay audio problem in seperate thread), but my chapters don't point to the right places anymore. Where am I going wrong? I'm thinking possibly it could be the missing warner logo etc at the beginning that's shifting all the chapters?

Anyone any ideas?
Any way of easily correcting. The same thing occurs if I use vobedit to extract chapter info...

BTW - this is by far and away the easiest way to back up DVDs if you don't want all the extras (i.e. just soundtrack, video and chapters). And it's V quick and high quality as I'm using CCE.I've even written a full, very detailed guide if anyone is interested.

I'm interested about it, but only if it is a guide full detailed and on only one dovcument. I really don't like the way doom guide are made, you have to jump between documents ti make a full project. I bored and stop reading.
I'm actually only ripping and writing, on 2 dvd-r if necessary, but I'd like to try reencoding some films.

I'd like to have a link to your guide if made so.

If you don't like them don't use them. Figure it out on your own and write your own guides. Don't diss the people that put all the work and effort to make things as simple for everyone.

The guide I have written is based on trying many different methods, and is simply the method I find the easiest. I can see other people are using this method as 2 bugs have come to light:

When using NTSC dvds, your chapter markings will not be correct.
Currently IfoEdit 0.95 has limited support for negative delays for the audio sync. My guide does not mention these problems, and is only a working draft I have put together to help a friend who is new to all this. If you are the same, it might be a good place to stat.

Also, as marcovan said, most people exploring dvd backup, and dvd authoring including the people writing the software are doing it for no personal benefit. The reason a lot of guides link of to other places is because a lot of the complex guides do not want to clutter the guide up with what experienced users will see as trivial.

I think you've been a little offensive with me. Please, read better the posts. I havn't begun this thread neither asked for a better guide (also if I don't think it would have been a crime). Mattdurkin has very gently offered his guide: "I've even written a full, very detailed guide if anyone is interested".
So, since I don't like to be offensive like you, better you will get a pair of glasses before giving you opinions.
Moreover, since I usually use Linux, for me it's not strange that someone makes free software or guides, I personally take part to various ml on linux to give all my acknowledges to other people, NEVER ASKING FOR MONEY. Maybe you think only money to be important.

try chapter correction this way.open the original first ifo and open the one you got when you authored the movie and just copy and paste the entry point sectors to your new ifo..
works for me all the time.

Just want to understand your method a little bit more. Can you give me a more detailed version please.

using ifoedit 0.95 open up the original VTS_01_0.IFO from the rip that dvd decrypter gave you,and open up the VTS_01_0.IFO that you got when you authored the movie in ifoedit 0.95 if you compare the them like this,click on VTS_PGCITI/VTS_PGC_1 do this with both ifo files scroll down through until you get to cell playback: and check the entry point sectors on every cell all you have to do is double click on entry point sector of the original ifo copy the digits you see double click on the same cell of your new ifo and paste the new digits in do this for every cell there can be as many as 30 cells but doesn't take long.
oh! yeah(if you want to keep the movie original do this) once you have done this you copy all the other files from the original rip to your new dir(apart from the original VTS_01_0.IFO AND THE ORIGINAL VOBS) that you created for your re-authored movie, and you shall have an exact copy of the original but small enough to fit dvdr(i have just finished doing Titanic which is 7.23gb original, down to 4.6gb and it has exactly the same contents.

I forgot to mention that you also have to copy/paste the start sector and the last sector of each cell..(it's all the reading i do on the best way to author my brain is not working so well anymore,so sometimes i forget, LoL)

this idea came from someone who already posted his method somewhere in this forum this is the only part of his method that worked for me many thanks to him i would never have thought of it.

Try using IFOUpdate. It does the cut and paste for you. I wrote it specifically to accomodate this method and to save the trouble of having to do this by hand. By the way there are couple of other parameters you should also copy from the newly created IFO to the original or you can run into problems. IFOUpdate moves everything necessary. It also has several other available functions that you can enable or disable as you choose.

I have check this issue, & in my case a 2 second difference is the worst I can find.....!


I basically do it the way mr.jimbo does except I just delete
the extra chapters that are created.

1# open the original VTS_01_0.IFO & write down the cells that
don’t have chapters to the right of them....!

2# open the VTS_01_0.IFO that IfoEdit .95 created during Authoring, then click VTS_PGCITI +VTS_PGC_1, then scroll down until you see the programs.

3# (right click) Delete the programs that you wrote down that correspond with the cell numbers. Note: those programs are the chapters......! When your done click the save button.....& make sure the VTS_01_0.IFO is high lighted...

4# open VIDEO_TS.IFO not the original, click on VMG_PTT_SRPT
scroll down until you see Title “X” numbers of chapter. Double click &
type the number of chapters you ended up with from VTS_01_0.IFO,
which should be the same as the original movie......!!!!!!!!!!
click the save button.....& make sure the VIDEO_TS.IFO is high lighted...

5# click get VTS SECTORS just to be safe....

Thanx for the tip on IFOUpdate i have read about this but never tried it,i will however tonight with E.T 2002..

Same comment. Try using IFOUpdate. Important questions:

1. What package do you use to author? It makes a difference as to how you recreate the PGCs.

2. Are you authoring PAL or NTSC? That can affect how you might use IFOUpdate.

i used to do my authoring the hard way using Maestro but now i do it with IFOEDIT 0.95(i think i used v0.88 to change the cell info can't remember lol) i have used these methods following doom9 guides (rempeg2v152,CCE,TMPGEnc Plus 2.53,Etc)to get my final reduced size of m2v,i have had sync probs with CCE & TMPGEnc so i just go through the long process using rempeg,yes it is mostly pal that im authoring,when i have to do ntsc i use pulldown.

You reckon IFOUpdate will sort the prob with the program chains? i have Downloaded IfoUpdate 0.56.and if i might say that i have just opened IFOUpdate and this looks like its going to be even easier i will be trying this next:D

looks like i have to resort to the way i have done previously by copying and pasting the cell sectors,start sectors and last sectors,i used IFOUpdate and it never worked for me,could be because it's Pal?

No, it should work the same PAL or NTSC. What kind of problems are you having? I have used it on every conceivable type of disk successfully...

I am backing up ET 25th aniversary edition(2discs)disc 1 was no problem doing the sectors my way ,when using IFOUpdate for some reason the scenes were out of place (maybe something i hadn't setup)anyway i managed to get it.
my problem now is this which i think is impossible to do my way,disc 2 has 6 program chains with 2 cell times in each chain,i can't load the cells into IFOeditv0.95,cos there is 6 txt files, question is this:how do i get passed this so that when i do author,i get the exact same as the original dvd with all cell times being correct?would i copy all the cell times onto 1 cell info txt and paste them into IFOEDIT? can you help with this?

i have just tried IFOUpdate and setup this way,left it as default but changed this setting auto correct vts sectors(had it both ways) when updating and recieved this error on the first test that error VTS_01_*_ SUP is not correctly sized on boundary.ABORTING so i dropped the sub file and started again then got the same error with the audio track,final test again and this time it was the m2v.what could be the problem?

i managed to get my backup to work using IFOUpdate but there is a small problem.i followed your help file packed with IFOUpdate,
all the stuff is there just like the actual dvd but some of the links don't work when they are clicked on,do u have any suguestions?i followed your help file packed with IFOUpdate
i used dvd decrypter to rip the full dvd i used vobedit to demux the vobs and used rempeg to reduce the m2v,authored it all back in using IFOEdit0.95 then used IFOUpdate to fix the cells,vts,etc.
would it be possible for you to give me details of your method?
would be much appreciated..:)
