This may be a dumb question but ...

Should filters be applied to Vdub when doing the initial capture, or when frameserving to Tmpg (for example).
I make a capture, then frameserve it to Tmpg. If filters are applied during the initial capture could they slow down the process enough to introduce frame drops? For non-segemented files that can be opened directly in Tmpg, do you open it up in Vdub, apply filters, and resave it? Thanks

You can't apply filters to most of the DATA-formats (E.G. YUV2, 16Bit andd so on)and even if you could it would slow down the process, because it would need more CPU power to do so. but I think there is some of the Data-formats wich can be applied filters to but I don't know wich ones.

the only stuff you can do with the capture is: Swap Fields, cropping and that kind off stuff wich can be selectet in the video menu.

And I usually frameserver from VirtualDub, because it is much faster than TMPEnc to resize and that kind of stuff, you also have more options in VirtualDub than in TMPEnc

I've been doing captures at 480x480, YUY2, Huffy codec on an athlon Xp 1600+ Win98 system and frameserve to Tmpg. So then you apply the various filters under the video menu when initiating the frameserve?

Yes, you apply the filters under the filters tab, and then you start the frameserver and frameserver to TMPEnc.

As you say you capture 480x480 then resize in VDub, because it is much faster than TMPEnc
