I have XCD Riff Directshow Filter installed, Ogg Vorbis, Divx, Xvid, Etc.

I have followed the guides and even tried converting the dat file to an avi or ogm file with no success.

My problem is - I have downloaded 4 movies, some from different sources, in XCD format - 3 ogm videos and 1 SVCD. Plain files, without being in XCD format first, all play fine in WMP8 and Zoom Player. I have tried burning to CD using CDRWIN with no luck. I have tried using Daemon tools with no luck. My CD-RW drive reads and copies the files fine, and daemon tools loads them OK, but when I try to play them back (yes DAT files are associated with WMP) Windows Media Player says "Loading...." and then the internet interface appears (indicating it could not read the file.) Zoom player locks my system up.

The wierd problem is that the files read off the CD fine, which is a common problem with newbies and XCD, but they won't play. Do I maybe have some conflicting filters? All other "normally" acwuired ogm, avi, and mpg files play fine.

Thanks for reading this lengthy message and I hope someone can help.

Marc

Perhaps I should also mention that when I try to open in Virtualdub, I get an error message stating "MPEG Import Filter - Unexpected End of File"

You have verified the XCD/Riff filter is loaded by using GraphEdit? Have you opened the .dat in GraphEdit? What does Debug View say when you try and play the .dat with Zoom Player?

How did you try converting the .dat file? Did you use dat2file application? If not, it should extract the file just fine.

FYI- WiMP is certainly not the most versatile player to use, especially when were talking about developmental filters such as XCD/Riff.

The only further thing I have tried so far is to play the files in WMP 6.4 and they work beautifully. I will do as you requested this weekend. Guess I am much more of a newbie than I thought..........

Thanks

You mentioned DebugView in your post, but I still would like to emphasize (sp?) that the Riff-Filter doesn't show up in GraphEdit when you render an XCD-File. Still, DebugView has entries starting with XCD_Media_Reader::<function>, so this is the only way to check it, I guess.

Alestrix,

I should have been more clear on that actually. What I meant was...in my experience if you drag the dat file onto the GraphEdit icon and it opens properly then I'm always successful in playing back the vlip with Zoom Player and Core Media Player. However, I have one machine that gives me odd problems from time to time, if GraphEdit tries to open the file but gives me an error then I've never been able to play the file with any media player. Strangely enough if I completely shutdown the system and then try and render the file, well 9 times out of 10 it always plays ok. I only have this problem on 1 out of 4 machines here. Hope this is a little more clear in my intentions.

Edit- The Riff filter does show up in GraphEdit if you go to "add filter" and under the DS section you'll see it. It doesn't show up in the Graph its self though.
