Dv - Divx quality+size problems

I capture DV type 2 avi using DVIO.

Open in VirtualDub and use the following settings:

Divx 4.12 1100 kb/s

Filters:

Smart De-interlace w/ blending checked
Crop 8 pixels on each side.
Resize 640 x 480 Precise Bilinear
Crop noise off edges 8,8,2,10 l,r,t,b
Hue/Saturation/Intensity Saturation(1.11)
Smart Smoother (1.1) (dia 3 threshold 26)

Lately my output has been double the normal size and the clip is very pixelated. It is as if the Smoother filter is non-functional.

Used to average 6.5mb/min now it is more like 12mb/min

What am I doing wrong?

:eek: You still use this outdated codec? Before your search for an error in your filter queue, I recommend to upgrade to DivX 5.0.2.

To find out the reason for your file being oversized you should post your DivX settings.

4.12 outdated? I have yet to read 1 thread that said 5.02 was a leap above 4.12. Up until recently I have been getting great results with 4.12.

Believe me (and the rest of the people on this forum): You can throw your old codec away. DivX 5.0.2 features a lot of bug fixes, b-frames, and much more.

it's the b-frames that makes Divx5 so wonderful. without b-frames, it would just be a cleaned up version of Divx4. i'd recommend you try it, i'm sure you be happy about the increased compression that comes with b-frames.

Yes I will be upgrading. But I am debating whether to jump to divx 5.x or Xvid. So in the meantime can someone take a shot at my filter queue?
