Awhile back I posted a thread in the hardware section asking for help getting my dvd drive to work in win2k. I recently tried some of my DVD's and got an error message that finally provided the clue I needed. If I put a disc in, the autoplay gives this message: Access to file path denied. When I try to play the disc manually, I get a purple screen with this message: This player is incompatible with the region markings of this disc. All my DVD's are region 1, my drive is set to region 1 (confirmed in device manager). Somehow, the player is not set to play region 1 or else it does not recognize the drive as region 1.
After cleaning out all the registry keys I could find with ATI's name, I did a fresh install of the drivers and player. I got the same error message as before. Can anyone help solve this problem? I emailed ATI's tech support but they are notoriously slow. Here is all the specs.
DFI mobo with VIA chipset
Pentium III 933 MHZ
512 MB
Hitachi GD2500 DVD 6x, this drive is non-region protected due to it's age (confirmed with Driveinfo)
ATI Radeon 8500 DV with latest graphics drivers
ATI DVD player 7.6
ATI MMC 7.7
The only other thing I can think of is that I can't set the DVD drive to use DMA, only PIO 4. This is from the motherboard, because my previous motherboard, an ASUS with Intel chipset had no problem letting me set my DVD to DMA
