CCE 2.66.x "Quality" settings

Has anyone done comparitive tests with the different settings under the quality tab? The encode moves at a much faster pace with "Filter off" checked. Does selecting Natural Graphics help with film encodes and is the "easy to difficult" scale the same as the old "Complex to Flat" scale in 2.5?

Any explanation or comparison tests of these settings would be much appreciated. Trying to squeeze LOTR onto one disc with nothing but the movie, and I want to avoid mpeg artifacting as much as possible.

If you open a template, you can play around with the simple settings slider and see what each notch on the slider does. Or at least you can see how the slider sets the specific filters and settings, knowing what those filters and settings do is another thing. Also, you can set the advanced settings in a template and as long as you don't edit the settings before encoding it will use the advanced settings.

I haven't done extensive testing, but one very obvious affect is that moving the slider to difficult causes the 'low pass filter' to move to 4, which causes the video to become very soft. It also lowers the Quantizer characteristics (flat priority), which is like the Image Quality Priority from 2.5. There are also other settings, not present in earlier versions, which the slider affects, but I don't know exacty what affect they have.

@ Demi ..i must say that i was just thinking the same thing last night when i watched my LOTR that i had squeezed on to one DVD-R.......when i squeezed LOTR with CCE it turned out fine (i squeezed it with CCE 2.50) ..except ..only at the moments in the film when its dark i get artifacts... first did a one pass (the guide way with the normal settings) ..and during my second pass i used 5 times vbr ..with a max of 9800 a Bias of 0 and the highest possible average kbits ..i cannot remember but i guess it was around 2750 or 3000 because of the fact that the movie is so long .....so i second your question......is there any other way to make sure that the artifacts dont happen in films with black background or films with low light and/or are taken in night time and stuff....should i have also set a higher min or something??? I thought that with settings a higher average global bitrate it would have been better quality.....also i watched my movie on tv with my rca out of my video card on my pc .......

question to everyone is it usually better quality when you play your finished DVD0-Rs with a standalone player since its hardware de-encoding instead of software de-encoding with Power DVD???
