Backup without authoring??

Is it possible? Doom9 is way to big for me to read (I'm to bussy) so don't mind me asking. Up to now I reauthored the movie with menus from scratch with Sonic Fusion. I have used DVD2AVI and SubRip to get my material and reauthored with menus and all chapter points. It is a one-day work. Is it possible to backup a DVD without authoring? I would like to keep the menus and chapter points with english audio and ALL subs. I know I can't escape from reencoding of the video but that's OK.

With DVD-5 disks (single layer) you can just use DVD-Decrypter. With DVD-9 disks Derrow has written a new utility called DVDsplit. See his site,

This will allow "one button ease" to make a backup of a DVD-9. The only downside is that it will take 2 blanks.

DVDSplit is indeed a solution though as I haven't gotten the final version yet I don't know if it not only keeps the menu and main movie and drops the extras (beta versions did that). But IfoEdit can do that too so it's up to you if you want to pay the 15$ or not.

In any case, IfoEdit offers you a variety of ways to make a DVD smaller without re-authoring and often even re-encoding. All the guides listed below explain methods which do not involve re-authoring:
