DivX player has problems with files bigger than 2GB!!?

Hi!
Ripped a movie (DivX502) to 2.1GB (3 CDs)! Wanted to play it with the DivX player of DivX Networks, which I installed with the codec itself! The DivX Player 2.0 Alpha says that it cannot open the file! Why? Has it something to do with the file size? Do not have problems with smaller files (1.4GB - 2 CDs)!

I don't think it's the player, but windows.

Windows 9x have problems with files that are bigger than 2 GB (i think), if you try opening it with windows 2000 or XP you should experience no problem.

More important that what operating system you have is the partition type your disk has (but some partition types are not alouded in older Windows versions).

FAT32 partitions have a maximum filesize limit of 2GB, so you must have WinXP with that kind of partition.

You can transform your FAT32 partition into NTFS (which has no limit of filesize) following this guide (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/itpro/managing/convertfat.asp) in Micro$oft´s site. I don´t know if you will be able to save your file or if you will have to encode it again, but once you have NTFS, you won´t have anymore problems like that.

Edited: Oops, right after I finish posting I realize that FAT32 has a 4GB filesize limit. It is FAT16 that has the 2GB limit... So I don´t know the answer for your question. Sorry :(

Yeah, it is NOT his file system... otherwise he couldn't have a bigger than 2Gb file in the first place... it is probably the file reader that divx player uses... the old AVI format do not allow files bigger than 2Gb... the new OpenDML (or whatever the new AVI format is called) does, try it with window media player? or get vdub and cut it up...since you're gonna put it on 3 cds anyway...

I use DivX Player 2.0 Alpha of the DivX502 bundle! My AVI is encoded with GKnot 1.26.1! It cannot be an old AVI! ;) So, I think it is a problem of the player!!! BTW. It works in Win Media Player!

Well, as safai pointed out: quite a lot of applications (DivX player apparently being one of them) cannot read OpenDML avi files. It is just ~10 years old standard, wait a bit :). And when you REALLY need to open the file and have no other option, use AviSynth (possibly with VFApi)
