audio out of sync encoding mpeg1 to divx5 any alternatives?

I did a 3000k bitrate mpeg1 capture of a 2 hour several long video from VHS vcr.

the original mpeg1 file has perfect a/v sync.

I encoded it to divx using VirtualDub 2 pass Divx5 650k video and 64k div-;) audio.

when I play the encoded files near the end the audio would be 2 seconds out of sync...

anyone have any idea why? and how to correct it? any program that will let me encode with perfect a/v sync?

You might want to try encoding the audio seperately, and adding it in afterwards. I think I have heard about Virtualdub producing asynch audio.
