Hi. I'm a bit out of my depth here. I know that two ways I can get DV avi files that I've captured with Premiere into older VfW programs like VDub and Motionperfect is:
either a) use a avs script that includes DirectShowSource
or b) install the Mainconcept 2.0.4 VfW DV codec on my system
My question is whether one or the other is going to be preferable with regard to quality? - I dont really understand whats going on with colourspace conversions etc with these two different approaches.
Thanks.

Mainconcept codec 2.04 (use AviSource) is better in compare to
M$ filter "DV Video Decoder"(DirectShowSource).
If you install "MainConcept MPEG Encoder" as bonus you
will get "MainConcept MPEG decoder"(it work as DirectShowSource -
I use this to decompress VOB-MPEG2 true avisynth v. 2.5 in YV12 collor format - interlaced )and MainConcept DV codec v. 2.1 .
The MC DV codec v. 2.1 work as DirectShow and VFW decoder-encoder.
Unfortunately the default DV Video decoder on my machine is still M$ DShow filter -
At this time I can use MC DV Direct Show filter only true GraphEdit.
I don't know how to fix this - I'll be glad to hear "THE TRICK" !
BEST REGARDS to ALL DEVELOPERS and NON_DEVELOPERS !!!

There is another way, you can use the video server plugin for preimer that serves the frames directly to avisynth and to vdub. But of course this requires preimer.

I believe the premier server does a YUV to RGB32 conversion.
So.... am I right in believing that qualitywise the Mainconcept codec approach will be better than the DirectShowSource method, which in turn will be better than the premiereVideoServer?
