couldn't find a good place to put this so here goes. i've mostly made short 1CD movies and am happy with those, but one day i'm going to want to rip longer ones.
from what i can make out, most people make a file twice the size of the media and then cut it in half (or half to the nearest i-frame).
am i the only person who thinks, when watching said movies with non-techies, and when the disc change happens in the middle of someone's line, that this looks rather unprofessional, even slightly spoils the movie?
what i was thinking was, would it not be better to split at the nearest chapter stop. however, i still want to use the full storage space. so one part will have a slightly higher bitrate than the other. i don't see this being a major problem unless the movie has really long chapters (like Magnolia, 15 mins). Of course, it's easy to get the time you want to split at, and it's easy to convert that into frames. But beyond that, i haven't really thought it through.
