Problems with mpg playback

I recently had to reinstall Windows XP. Now any mpg video I play doesn't look quite as good as before..but the worst thing is random pauses in the video followed by a high pitched sqeaking sound that comes from the speakers. I've no idea what's causing this. I wanted to try reinstalling the mpg codec but i've no idea how to.

For *.mpg files you dont need special codecs,its all implemented in windows. maybe you should check if you have something not installed that was installed before and thats causing the problem(maybe actual Graphic Card Driver?). I had never problems with mpg files, but i had never installed xp on my machine ;o).

I was talking about the windows codes. I've got less installed on this install than before :\

so correct me if iam wrong, but your problem is that you want some more of the windows codecs from microsoft?? if iam right you have two ways to go...the first is: microsoft bring his codecs with the media players so try install media player 7.1 and maybe beta 9. the second way is, if you want you can download my codec pack at: http://home.graffiti.net/snakeisthestuff/

then select the custom section and check under video codecs:

Microsofts WMV Decoder
Microsofts Mpeg4 Decoder

Lol sorry my response before wasn't very clear. I just want to get the problem fixed. I thought reinstalling the windows codecs might work.

I tried downloading your codec pack but it was so slow and eventually stopped downloading around 3% :\ i got about .450k as my highest download speed while getting it. lol
