View Full Version : Spiderman is very uncompressible.

Using a 2 CD (2x 690mb) rip:

1x ac3
512x288

I still only get 66% on the compressiblity test. That is just horrible for 2 CDs.

Lets not even discuss 1 CD:

1x vbr mp3 192kbps
512x288
700mb

= 35% after the five percent compressiblity test

I think this is the least compressible 16x9 movie yet.

I used ogg vorbis -q2.5 (roughly 90kbit/s) and I believe 544 or 576 H resolution for my 2 CD encode, so I think we're living on the same planet. Some guy in general discussions encoded this movie @ 720H for 2 CD. :D Hopefully he'll take my advice in the future and pay attention to compressibility check results.

By the way, 60-70% is optimal for 1 and 2 CD encodes, why does this bother you? I think the mistake you're making personally is using mp3 @ such a high bitrate. The audio may very well be transparent to you, but the video is not, at least @ 512. Perhaps you should try 144kbit/s or jump ship and try vorbis.

I did the 4:3 fullscreen version. Talk about rough. 2 cds, 512x and 128k mp3, soft bicubic, b-frame on, and still only got 61%. Came out alright though. Man I hate fullscreen movie versions.

I encoded Spiderman with XviD 640*352 Neutral Bicubic Temperal soften 1,3 and AC3 on 2cd.

Well hmmmm. If you did a comp test you'd probably get I imagine 45%.

Suit yourself. I have done a lot of tests and I'm confident that my advice, which echoes the advice given by every old-timer, is correct.

Where is vorbis in the options menu?

All I see is:

1x ac3
...
...
...
...
ac3 + mp3

Btw the movie came out pretty good at 66%, although it's a bit dark.

Hi-

No vorbis-maybe next version.

But as I understand it, vorbis has next to no overhead, so I don't think you have to tick anything there.

I always use the "add" and set i to 3MB when i use vorbis and "no audio" in the options meny

im doing the movie right now, dont know what the quanlity will be till its done but im pretty sure it will be great for me. im doing it in 2 cd's at 1400 total. 1451kbps, 224mp3 sound, 4.3 aspect ratio couldnt find one that was 16.9 as it was all sold out. B/P*F is .197 with comp test at 52.9 and a res. of 640x480. hopefully this will help out for some of you and will get back on the results tomorrow. so stay tuned

I wouldn't recommend such a high audio bitrate. That kind of bitrate is as transparent as 160kbit/s, while the movie visibly suffers for it.

ok i watched the movie and it looks great. hardly any blocks at all. guess must of done something right. as for the sound i dont think it really matters as far as picture quality goes as im encoding it as such a high bitrate of 1451. the quality looks superb. now im reencoding it again and this time only on one cd with ogg sound. using 94kbps ogg. will let you know tomorrow and on the quality. im sure it wont be as good as the a 2 cd encodes.
