View Full Version : 2X Burning takes 30mins? Uhh...

Yea so that's some weird crap. Since I got my A04 and upgraded (foolishly) to the 1.33 and compled my first burn, which was "supposidly" at 2x, I was astonished that the sucker took 1hr and since then *had come to assume that 2x = 1hr. I guess I never just did the simple math. But yea, so that's my new problem. Why the heck when I use branded Mitsui/Pioneer media and select 2x from so far discjuggler, instantCD+DVD, or Nero, does it only write at 1x even though everything says it's chuggin along at 2x?

Only odd thing I observed in all those programs was in Nero. During a 2x burn I noticed the lower buffer hit 100 then drop to 0, go back to 100 then back to 0. And at 1x it doesn't do that. Only conclusion I can draw from that is the HDs can't feed the data fast enough, which is bull since its only 2.7MB/s... My config is as follows:

WinXP
PIO-MODE since it always crapped out at me on burning in DMA
A04 with real 1.33 ;(

I have tried Mitsui 2x, Pioneer 2x, Verbatim 2x, Ritek G03 2x and all that sh*t burns at 1x even though I select 2x in all the programs. So, what do you guys think/suggest?

I just tried that. :( I had no idea it could burn in the first place. I tried it and currently on a Mitsui 2x DVD-R I'm only going at 1x even though I selected 2x. And it's at 1.408KB/s

This also may be jumping WAY to soon to a hypothesis but does anyone else here have the REAL 1.33 version firmware that pioneer released installed and has successfully burnt a full DVD in 30 minutes?

ok did you get the latest version of decryptor
it was relesed last week i think maybe it is your
firmware or maybe the disks are not what they say
they are! has anybody else tried these disks?
i use datawrite clasic and have no probs maybe
you shoud buy a 2x pioneer disk and try that
this may give you some idea of what is going on

hope you can sort it out
ps why did you upgrade your firmware? were you having
trouble before?

well it's not the media. mitsui discs are the highest quality you can buy, even better than pioneer discs ^.^ and all 2x discs by mitsui are even rated at 4x. but I also own pioneer discs and they don't work for me. and yea, I tried upgrading but it said I had the latest version which is 3.0.

Well it's no big deal anyway I guess. It gives me a good excuse to take it back to CCity and have em give me another one. That's way I'll just upgrade to the hacked 1.33 and hopefully everything will solve itself.

the new version of decrypter is 3.1.3.0 you should be able to get it
here http://www.dvddecrypter.com but i think it maybe your firmware
that is causing the problem as i said i am using 1.30 and i have no
probs burning at 2x what firmware does the ao4 come with now ?
i bought mine about 2 months ago and so did a mate of mine he is
using win 98 i am using xp before you update your firmware (if you get a new drive) i would surgest you read some of the threads about
that hacked firmware it seems that some people are having trouble with it!! anyway it wont hurt to update decrypter it is an exelent
programe and it is free!

hope this helps

I didn't know 3.xx was out, I just snagged 3.0 but I'll go hunt around for it now. I can't remember what firmware my drive came with. I know it wasn't 1.33 but, trusting pioneer (never again), I diligently upgraded to the legit 1.33 as soon as I purchased and had since always *thought* I was burning at 2x and only last night did I find that I was being hoodwinked by the aholes at pioneer ;p. But, once I get a new drive from CCity today I'll see what can be done. Worse case scenario, I pay an extra $100 for the sony drive but I hear that has issues too. Oh well.
