convert widescreen movie to 4:3

Is there a way to convert a widescreen dvd to 4:3. I can rip it as 16:9 and then use bs player to change the aspect ratio to 4:3, but why not just be able to rip in 4:3 format from the beginning. I don't have a need for widescreen.

Hi-

Just start cutting into the sides until it's 1.33:1. I certainly wouldn't recommend doing that though, and there's no way to get true Pan-And-Scam...er...Scan doing it that way (but then, BS Player doesn't give you Pan-And-Scan either).

By the way-full screen is much more difficult to encode (not as compressible) because, when compared to a 2.35:1 movie with the same horizontal resolution, there are nearly twice as many pixels.
