Hi all,
I've noticed when making divx3 (and I think the same applies to 5) files, the resulting movie is darker than the original. I'm gathering you can change this, but how? And do u change a setting before you encode it, so all the information is there, or do u do it afterwards, like in V.Dub (I'm guessing using only the limited info there, perhaps guessing some values to make lighter).
Cheers - this should make the movies a little easier to watch ;)
btw - I use Gordian Knot.

hi Joshua,
i noticed that DivX created with SmartRipper+DVD2AVI+VFAPI+Nandub are lighter than with SmartRipper+DVD2AVI+GKnot+AviSynth+Nandub. Maybe this can help you out!

Hi Joshua Wood-
To make the movie brighter before encoding, use the Tweak Filter. First install the new AviSynth ver. 2.0.6. Then you can just insert the line Tweak(Bright=5), or however bright you want it, into the .avs before encoding. With an older version of AviSynth, you'll have to get the Tweak filter and then load the Plugin also.

Do u mind being a little more specific?
I've installed the new version of avisynth, but how exactly do I use it? Do I have to manually enter that line into the avs file?
Cheers

Hi-
I thought I was pretty specific the first time. Take this line:
Tweak(Bright=5)
and insert it into the .avs (yes, manually, as maybe the last line). Then open the .avs in VDub and check to see that it's bright enough. If not, then try:
Tweak(Bright=10)
or any number up to 255. Also, in the AviSynth2 folder, in the Docs section, doubleclick on the filters.html, and you'll see a list of all the filters available to you and what they do and the parameters they use. You can do the same thing with Levels also.

Cheers for that, I'll give it a shot...
I was thinking that was what you had to do, but thought perhaps you used AviSynth to insert it somehow...like you simply choose the filters you want and it would insert them for you...but no...
Anything I can do to brighten already made divxs? Do I need to load it in vdub and alter the brightness level again? (if possible)...can u do it in post-processing (ie, while playing the movie)?
Thanks again
Josh

Hi-
As for brightening finished .avis-you could always reencode them and get them brighter, but you don't want to do that. The decoders have brightness settings that you can adjust when playing the movie. I use BS Player, so I right click the movie and hit Properties, and bring up whatever decoder I'm using at the moment and there's a slider to adjust the brightness. Most other players have a way to do the same thing.
