hi. i haven't tried DVD yet, but i want to. i've read all the guides on this site about it.

1. is it worth putting a divx movie on DVDR??

i've made many vcd's , and they're ok quality, but when i encode from a good dvd rip divx, it looses a lot of quality. do people put them on dvdR? if so ,can you fit more than 1 on one disk seen as theyre smaller or would i have to convert it to mpeg2 first (making only 1 fit)?

2. Sony DRU-500A DVD+-R/RW Internal

this is the write i'm planning to get but in the spec's it says
CD / DVD Write Speed 24x (CD) / 4x (DVD-R) / 2.4x (DVD+R)
is it 4x, or 2.4x??????#

3. aren't dvd writers compatible with any dvdr[s?

i've read many posts about incompatibility with the dvd-r#s and the writer. surely it's a standard like cd-r? as in every dvd writer can write on any dvdr.?? i was thinking about buying the Verbatim cd's. anyone tried them with the above writer??

Yes you can reencode them for dvd. I too have the sony 500. I just started a few weeks ago taking my divx rips and converting them to dvd format to put on dvd. I can easily fit 2 and once fit 3 movies onto the dvd. I used vdub to recomine my cd's to make one movie file, then separated the file to a audio & video file. Took the video file and reencoded in CCE to dvd specs. Imported the files in Maestro, made menu in Photoshop and compile and burn. Plays in my standalone player. Quality looks pretty good, but it will depend on ur divx that u start with. When i did my divx movies originally, i only removed the black area and kept the ac3 audio. Most of my divx had to be split to 2 cds.
