I tried to encode Ice Age which are in PAL and 1h 18 min long.
I used CCE 2,5 and ripped with internal driver.
I set the bitrate to 0-40 min use 800MB
and 41-79 min use 800Mb under BITRATE Panel

When the whole process is finiseh I ended up with one(1) cue-file.
I burned it to CD, using Nero, and the result are outstanding.
How can this be possible?

I thought I would use 2 discs as usually, this result is OK, but I need an explanation how this can be.
And.....no i have not the logfile available.

Ok...
In the 1st row....can set 0 to 78 min use 2*800MB??
or
Should I set the 1st row to 0 to 40 min use 1*800 and in the 2nd row 41 to 78 min use 1*800MB?

I try tried the last option and ended up with just one disc.

Hi-

...41-79 min use 800Mb under BITRATE Panel

Is this a typo? You set it to use 1 CD for video up to 79 minutes long, and the movie was 78 minutes long. If you want 2 CDs, you have to set it for 2x800 CDs.

I will ask this in a different way. What number do you have in the cd box in the bitrate tab next to 41-79 minutes?

This should be 2 not 1. Each section lives on it's own. It does not build. Some think that the first sections say for the first xxx minutes use 1 cd and for the second xxx minutes use another cd. This is not the way it works.

The way it works is:
If the total length of the movie is between xxx and xxx use x number of cd's for the whole movie.

Each line lives alone.

I used the 1 disc....on both rows...

I used the 1 disc....on both rows...

This was your mistake.

Like I said they do not add together they live alone.

I will try to explain it a little differently.

If the whole movie is not between the minutes listed DVD2SVCD moves to the next section until it finds where the length fits. At this point it uses the settings on that section and only in that section.

You told it to do this:

For a movie that's length is between 41 and 79 minutes make it fit on 1 cd.

If you had 2 there then it would read.

For a movie that's length is between 41 and 79 minutes make it fit on 2 cds.

Many, many thanx.
Now I finally get the picture. :o
Someone should put this text in the "Guide" or at least in the FAQ!
This would spare You a lot of stupid(?) questions.

I am sure the experianced guys will correct me if I am wrong.
What I do in this mater is quiet simple.

STEP 1

Work out the total time of the moive.

i.e 120 minutes.

STEP 2

Devide the total time by the number of disks you want the film to be on.

i.e 120 devided by 2 = 60.

STEP 3

Add a slight over head per disk of arround 2 minutes.

i.e 1 disk = 60 minutes + overhead = 62 minutes.

Now taking into account that I use 90 Minute Disks, then the bitrate
tab should look like this for a 2 disk movie.

Between 0 and 62 mins. Use 2 CD size 900 ????-1950
Between 62 and 124 mins. Use 2 CD size 900 1950-1200
Between 124 and 186 mins. Use 2 CD size 900 2636-1946
Between 186 and 248 mins. Use 2 CD size 900 1946-1509
Between 248 and 310 mins. Use 2 CD size 900 2380-1770

Doing this will encode your movie onto 2 disks. All you have to do
is ensure the max bitrate is with in the peramaters of your DVD Player.

To all the pro's out there I would like if possiable your comments on
the system I use.

Chears Rab.

@ The_Flying_Scot that is way too much work and I am sorry to say wrong. The only reason you still get it to come out right is because you have adjusted all the bitrate sections to 2 cd's.
Why the divide?
Why switch all the CD numbers?

DVD2SVCD calculates the total length of movie, not a per CD.

So for a 120 minute movie using the default settings DVD2SVCD would only use the section that reads:

Between 100 and 125 mins. Use 2 CD Size 800 1978-1541

That is the only section you need worry about for any video that is 100-125 minutes long. All the others are ignored. Remember it is total movie length and not what will fit on a CD.

There is a thread going on now that explains this in much greater detail in this forum. I believe it's called Confused on the Bitrate tab or something.
