View Full Version : ReelDVD won't let me import MPEG-2 videos

Hello everyone. I've been trying to author a self-promotion DVD in ReelDVD but run out of luck at step 1, which is importing an MPEG-2 video into the program!
I'm using CCE 2.66 and TMPEG Plus and I have created both 4:3 and 16:9 videos. I follow the guidelines regarding MPEG-2 encoding as found on the ReelDVD manual and the videos play fine (with correct aspect ratio) in PowerDVD and Media Player. But when I import them to ReelDVD I get a stupid "ReelDVD only accepts 4:3 or 16:9 video" message! What can be wrong?
I have tried anything I can think of (progressive or interlace, field order etc) to no avail. I'm not mixing different aspect ratio content, ReelDVD just won't accept any file I have made, no matter it being 4:3 or 16:9.
Can anyone please help? Cheers to all

well, seeing as you say 'the video' plays fine, it sounds like your trying to import the .mpg (program stream) into ReelDVD, where it is expecting Elementary streams (.m2v & .ac3/.m2a/.wav)

use the demux in mpeg tools in tmpgenc to save the elementary streams, if that doesnt help, then see if this thread can help.

Enf thanks for the reply, but...
I've also tried elementary streams, both the one produced by CCE but also from TMPG using "System (video only)" and "ES (video only). ReelDVD rejects any file, be it a muxed video or elementary stream.
Still standing puzzled...

PS Platform is WinXp Pro, could this be causing problems?

can you please post what source and settings you are using to encode, including frame size, aspect and frame rate?

usually reeldvd doesnt complain over nothing, hopefully you've just made an oversight ;)

It's possible to set TMPGENC and CCE to 1:1 and 2.21:1 (2.11 in TMPG) encoded aspect ratios -- you didn't accidently set it to one of these settings did you?

Thanks for your replies, lads. Hopefully it seems that I have found the cause of the trouble. While I was paying close attention to all settings like GOP lenghts, IBP structure, DC precision etc I was probably - and stupidly - generating programme stream (without audio) and not elementary video stream...

I was sure that I had tried importing elementary stream to ReelDVD, but I had one more go last night and just made sure to tell TMPG and CCE to make ES video. I then imported the stream to ReelDVD with no problem, so now I can finally move to step 2 in the lenghty proceduce of DVD authoring!

Topic closed, me thinks. Thanks again for your help
