i have a everything Geforce2MX/Mx400 i use v-dub to capture with PICVideo as compressor set @352x240. just a simple ? When i capture using 48/sterio-compression set @ 18 i c cpu usage @ only tops 20%. the sys is a AMD 1.3 gig with 512 ram. i get only a few dropped frames.
Why is my cpu usage so low?
I'm not bitchin just thought it would be more.

From what I understand, the dropped frames may be from you Hard Drive not being able to keep up. This may be due to your drive being fragmented. I have a second drive that I format before each new project.

I don't believe the capture is that CPU intensive. Until recently I have been capturing 720x598ish video from my DV camera using firewire, on a AMD750.

Hope this is of some help.

here's what i was able to do:
[cel600,ata100hdd,bt8x8card]:
picvideo mjpeg at "15" - "20"
frame size 720x576

VD capture (vfw)
CPU load is 100%,but i get just few drops on higher durations
also....(example->14drops out of 64400 total (cca.43mins of video or so))
(and i haven't tried VDsync+timer yet(heheh))
[i think CPU load indicator is not correct there.....my win98 system has some flaw so it mistakes when showing CPU occupation]

ATV2000 (wdm)
CPU load is NOT 100%!
i was able to capture video AND encode to divx ("even lower" priority)
simultaneously!
it was nice surprise from win2k OS.......
(off course no drops....)

so i ask myself why are you doing it lo-res?
(pic-video at 18 @ 352x240?huh..that can't look fine!)
your cpu load looks pretty normal for circumstances.....

[let me say also that i didn't defrag hdd for looong time, and still no significant dropping of frames...]
