I just bought a sony trv 25e mini-dv camcorder this weekend.

I want to be able to transfer the contents of my mini-dv tape onto my computer via the dv-out connection on my camcorder.

I presume i will need a firewire card and a FireWire IEEE1394 Plug 4/6 cable as well.

I heard you can get usb2 and firewire combo cards.

Could someone recommend a fireward card to me.

Thanks in advance

Hi there.

I think any firewire card will do. Its not as presise a process as capturing, so cheap is good. Remember you are just transfering data. I think what is more important to consider is any software that comes bundled with the card - that IS an important consideration, and if you have no editing software this can be a cost effective way of getting it.

Ask this 'recomendations for editing software/dv card bundles' on the dv forum - i don't think that would count as a cross post.

Good luck.

I can recommend the Adaptec DuoCommect model AUA-3121, which provides 3 firewire ports and 4 USB 2 ports (there are 2 firewire and 3 USB sockets accessible from the back, one of each accessible internally). This works like a charm, and the USB 2 gives me a 4X speed up of my Canon scanner which is intended to run on USB 2 if available.
