Subtitle mistery

I did a "Movie only" of Showtime stripping everything except 1 English audio and 1 Dutch subtitle.

It plays fine on my PC, Yamakawa, Cyberhome. But (you knew this was coming)
On my neighbors Cyberhome it shows English subtitles.

Does Ifoedit just remove the reference in the ifo file (looks like it) ??? Or is there another explanation / solution ??

I have the same problem with Guest House Paradiso : Dutch subtitles have been ripped, but German ones show up. (even if I rip ALL the subtitles... still no solution)
I have used the last ifoedit (.94) en the one before

I'm gonna search the forum, but does anyone have an idea ?

1) Open the VTS_XX_0.ifo (your main movie).
If your main movie is in the VTS_01_0.ifo, open the VTS_01_0.
2) Check the second part of the ifo edit screen.
and check the value of the subpicture in the title set movie
(attributes) that you want to keep for example: id: 0x20 or
id: 0x21 .......
in most cases, 0x20 is the value for the English subtitles.
3) now click twice on the VTS_PGCITI (part one of the ifoedit
screen using the left button of your mouse).
4) Click on the last VTS_PGCx only once with the left button (mouse).
5) Now scroll down the second part of the ifoedit screen slowly
to check where where are located the precommand and cellcommand
values.

1st possibility: there are precommand in the description.

Place your cursor on the LAST PRECOMMAND (not the cell command).
Click with the right button of your mouse and choose
AddPrecommand.
You now see a new precommand with a NOP value.
Click once on the new precommand with the left button of your
mouse.
You see the following value: 0000000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 .....
Place your cursor on the first 00 value and change it with 51
Do you remember your subtitles value ?
If this one was 0x20 enter the value C0 in the 5th bytes, you should see the following values:
0000000 51 00 00 00 c0 00 00 00 ........
if the value was 0x21 enter c1 in the 5th bytes
0x22 enter c2
0x23 enter c3
0x24 enter c4
.....
Click on the save option and check the result.

2nd possibility: you don't have any precommand in the description.
Search for the text: there is no PGC Command Table.
Right click on the text (right button of your mouse) and choose
add precommand.
You now see a new precommand with a NOP value.
Click once on the new precommand with the left button of your
mouse.
You see the following value: 0000000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 .....
Place your cursor on the first 00 value and change it with 51
If this one was 0x20 enter the value C0 in the 5th bytes, you should see the following value
0000000 51 00 00 00 c0 00 00 00 ......
if the value was 0x21 enter c1 in the 5th bytes
0x22 enter c2
0x23 enter c3
0x24 enter c4
.....
Click on the save option and check the result.

Thanx for replying, but I think I meant something else:

I get the WRONG subtitles in the rip. So, even when I select the Dutch subtitles, German ones Appear.
If I select the German ones, The English Appear. When I select the English ones, English appear.

So, the subs are 'missing'..

I think it has something to do with the sub IDs which aren't correct... ?

Maybe a stupid question but does the original DVD works correctly when you choose a subtitle ?

Yes, it works perfectly. I think that I have to switch subtitle IDs to test. I have found vStrip, but it's not an easy program...

Which value do you have to type on your remote control to get the dutch subtitles when you play the original DVD ? For example, if you introduce the value 3 please check if it matches with the dutch subtitles in your ORIGINAL VTS main movie. Maybe you should rip the German subtitles and look if it really plays them on your stand-alone or PC player. I think there is a mismatch in the subtitles values x'020', x'021', x'022' ...

I see lots of suggestions but the questions remains

1) Does ifoedit actually strip subtitles (thus saving space) from the vob
2) why does one player + powerdvd show dutch subs while another one player shows english ones

since I left 1 subtitle and no menus I can only turn subs on or off

I think that the Master Derrow could reply to your questions but unfortunately this gentleman is very busy. Programmes he created are simply fantastic but sorry, as a newbie, I can't answer to your questions although when I play some original DVD's on my PC (using PowerDVD), it doesn't show the subtitles I choosed.

I suppose this is a kind of bug. I have tried a subtitle rip program on my ripped .vobs and it also returned the wrong subtitle. After some reading on this forum, I found a way that could help me extract the right subtitles: just try OTHER subtitle streams and see what comes out. I found the subtitle at the 6th postition, while there were only 3 subtitles on the disc.

So, let's hope one day this 'bug' might be fixed, 'coz now I have to re-author the whole disc to integrate my working subtitles ...

That's what I said in one of my answers, I think that subtitles are mismatched in the original DVD and you should choose another one just to see what subtitles you get on your stand-alone player. Even with IfoEdit (DVD play), you are able to play a dvd on harddisk and check which titles it shows (stream subpictures). For example, you could get the subtitles in French, although it shows the stream subpictures off or English. Too bad I can't test your original DVD.
We will find the solution !

My standalone DVD-player plays the subtitles from the original perfectly.
I have played the original DVD on ifoedit also, and also there it gives no problem at all...

The rip is fine according to me, but when I start ripping streams and/or VOBIDs (tested both), it gives me troubles...
