VOB Instant CD/DVD doesn't recognize my DRU-500A either. Hopefully the next version will include support for this writer.
RecordNow, which came with the writer supports it, but the upgrade, RecordNow Max, does not. Stomp says that the next version due out sometime in November will support the DRU.
Additionally, the only disks that are supported by the DRU for 4X burning are Sony-Branded (~$10 a piece). Hopefully there will eventually be a hardware patch to allow burning of less expensive media at speeds greater than 1X.

I just had two coasters...hmm..looks like you are right ..when i burn the file onto a Pioneer DVD-RW it burns it just fine ..however ..if i use an Imation DVD-R or a Nashua DVD-R...i get coasters:(.....strange!...I hope they come up with a patch or an update so that we'll be able to use cheaper dvd-r s.
