Hi,

I need some help with an aspect ratio for a movie in 1.85:1 ratio (suitable for 4:3 TV). When viewed on a 16:9 TV there are black borders on all 4 sides. This I taken from my search on the forum and describe my problem:

“There are also DVDs which have a DAR of 4:3 but contain widescreen picture. In fact, it should say letterboxed widescreen. These DVDs have been mastered as just explained. When you watch these DVDs on a 16:9 TV the picture will both have to be stretched horizontally and vertically”

What should my AviSynth cript look like, for the movie to fill out the whole screen?
Best regards

In my opinion just encode it as 4:3 and leave the black bars.
It is quite a bit of work to get it right.
You will have to crop off the black bars at just the right point and that could take a few tries.
The video was encoded with those black bars permemntly.
If you want to learn more do a search on crop both here and in the avisynth forum.

Thanks markrb,
I am willing to give it quite a bit of work. I thought that the right entry in the AviSynth would do the job. I’ve been looking around for some time now, maybe some one could give me the numbers to insert in the AviSynth or a god link ?

Like I said search and read up on the word "crop" in this forum and in the avisynth forum. You may also want to read up on the avisynth homepage.
