Best all round Operating system

Just thought i would do a poll to see what you guys and gals think is the best os? by all round i mean encoding , how stable it is, range of tools avalible and anyother +/- you can think of !

well it looks like Xp has taken over 2000 , is this because its better or just because people THINK its better because its newer?

XP blows! If you think it doesn't please tell me why it requires you to call Microsoft when you change your sys configs? Or why it doesn't work with some of the very useful dv editing tools?
OF course my opinion is bias because I use my computer primarily for dv purposes, but doesn't everyone in this forum?

win2k was running way more stable on my computer before i got the idiotic idea to install XP... but now it's done and i wont switch back...
i hope the overall performance and stability will improve in the future!

Well , having jumped from Win98SE to XP HE , I don't have enough comparative data across the choices. However, I have tried all the posted solutions I could find to the issue of XP not being able to delete large AVI files ( unload the sh%^&.dll , deleting folder instead of file, cut and paste to recycle bin ).. None have worked. Fortunately, I have isolated and dedicated twin 40 GB HD for capping and DV, and simply do a "quick format" reformat ( 30 seconds) to purge and re-store full available space. But If I had been capping on my main HD, I'd be screwed. Until there is a clean fix for this, I don't think XP deserves such high honors!

I have the Coroporate Edition of XP :D So all the above mentioned problems are not present. I like it alot since i upgraded from 98. I never tried 2000, but XP is built from 2000 so I don't think there should be much of a difference.

For me its win2k all the way i used to run 98 and 2k dual boot but found my self using 98 only went it didnt mater (i.e emails browsing) and using 2k for things like encoding etc , now im just on 2k NTFS and it rules ! no crashes / blue screens / problems YET :D My friends have XP and it looks too toyish , i know you can get rid of al lthat ...but think of the code blote? Oh and toyish is a word:p
