How 2 convet MPEG1 -> MPEG2 w/chapters and no PBC?

OK............I have to files in MPEG1 (NTSC VCD)format. I wanna convert them into MPEG2 (PAL SVCD) with chapters every 5 minutes and no PBC.

I know that TMPGEnc can convert MPEG1 into MPEG2 but how do I get chapters and no PBC?

VCDEasy is where you create chapters. You can set it to every 5 minutes and turn of PBC.

As for VCD to SVCD, why do you want to convert 352x240 to 480x576? That's crazy. Enlarging results in pixelation blocks. Which is kind of ugly.

Don't forget to leterbox it, because NTSC is slightly shorter in height than PAL. (SVCD - 480x480NTSC 480x576PAL VCD - 352x240NTSC 352x288PAL)

He shouldn't have to letterbox it, PAL has a different pixel AR so full 704 x 576 video on a PAL TV should be the same true aspect ratio as 704 x 480 video on an NTSC TV and 640 x 480 on a computer monitor.

AFAIK VCDEasy's chaptering relies on PBC being on and the only way to create a chapter effect without PBC is to cut the mpeg files into 5 minute separate pieces, although this will introduce a short pause on switching chapters. But then there could be a way to use chapter points without pbc, I haven't much experience there (use PBC most of the time :/ )

Hmmm... Never did a NTSC->PAL conversion... Live in NTSC region. :p So ok, well there you go.

As for no PBC, hmmm I've never turned off PBC so I don't know if the chapters rely on PBC to work. Could always give it a shot. As for spliting by 5 minutes, yeah, that would suck with the skips. You could always try to split at scene changes, which wouldn't suck as bad. Then, TMPGEnc is notorious for having a splitting problem.

I still don't think you should resize to SVCD format and just use VCD.
