View Full Version : AZID 2/0 Downmix for .mp2 with Dpl2 surround?

Ok I have been reading through the threads and I am a little confused? This is what I thought was true.

1. I want to take an 3/2 .ac3 and transcode to .mp2 with the intention of decoding on a Dolby Prologic II receiver.

2. I have been using AZID to decode the file as a 2/0 channel stream. I also use the Surround2 matrix.

3. I then transcode to .mp2 using a bitrate of 224kbps, Stereo mode, and Psychoacoustic mode 2.

I understood that this will create a stream that should be reproduced very well when fed into a receiver that will decode Dolby Prologic II.

My question is:
Should I be decoding as 3/2 in AZID or 2/0? I assumed 2/0 because that would give me a stereo stream with the Surround 2 matrix. Am I correct or did I miss something?

Thanks,

I read the entire faq before I posted. The only faq that is close is:

AC3->MP3. which AC3 stream should i decode ? 5.1 or 2.0 ?

This doesn't answer my decode question. I would like to know how I should decode a 5.1 stream for output to Prologic II .mp2? Do I decode as 3/2 as I want all 5 channels in the final surround .mp2 or would you only use this option when outputting 6 waves or ac3?

Thanks,

2/0.

on the other hand, you could use BeSweet or HeadAC3e for a direct transcode of ac3 into mp2. (with built-in Dolby Surround 2 downmix implementation and full floating-point process).
