I am quite frustrated in my endeavor to encode the DVD entitled "Captured". When I encode it there are places in the video that play back choppy with corrupted video that usually consists of large macroblock pixelation....it kind of reminds me of when a satellite looses a partial signal and the video looks corrupted some but still continues to be visible.
I have encoded this DVD on 3 different machines with a completely different compliment of instaleed software (non-encoding related that is), except that on all machines I use Gordian Knot with the Divx 5.02 Pro codec. Each time the results are the same with the resulted Divx file containing corrupted video in some areas.
I can't tell if the corruption is identical but it seems to happen n the same general area of the film. I even tried using V-Strip instead of Smart Ripper and encoded twice on one machine and the results were the same.
I am fairly new to the whole encoding scene and am rather stumped byt this problem. Usually my results are very good using GK and this is the first DVD that has continually stumped me.
Any help on this matter would be greatly apprecialted.
Thanks in advance.....

Hi and welcome to the forums.
1. Are you sure it's not on the DVD? Have you played it at the corrupt sections and not noticed anything amiss?
2. If the DVD plays OK, have you played the vob files on your hard drive at those same places to confirm it's not on them? There's a fair chance that the DVD is scratched or otherwise damaged and that the vob files already have the corruption on them.
3. If the DVD and the vob files are OK, have you opened the .avs in VDub to confirm that the corruption isn't in it because, perhaps, of some incorrect parameters or filter settings?
If I had to guess, I'd say it's 2, but if 1 and 2 are OK but not 3, then post the .avs without the lines beginning with "#".
If 1,2,and 3 are all OK, then it has to be a codec problem, and you might start by posting the log file.

The DVD shows no signs of corruption at all.....it plays fine.
The vob files play equally as well.
The DVD was brand new out of the package when I ripped it to the HD and there are no scratches, I checked.
I will have to re-rip it to the HD and follow your instructions for the rest....I will have to wait until tomorrow for that though.
The baffling part is that the movie screws up the same way each time on different machines....and I don't think it is a codec porblem because other movies give me absoulutely no problems on the same machines.
Thanks for the speedy reply

I'm not sure which log file you want.....there are several and they seem pretty big. I could save a one minute or even 30 second section of the movie if I had somewhere to send it for someone to see what I am talking about.
This is the 5th time I have encoded this movie. This time was on a brand new machine I just built to encode movies on and the results were the same as the others.
I am baffled....

The "..._Gknot.log" file is the one to copy and paste here. You may also want to do the same thing with your .avs file, as well, but for that file, please leave out any line beginning with "#", as those are comments.

Well...I have posted the requested info, does anyone have any ideas now?

Hi-
I sent you a PM a week ago saying I'd take a look at a bad section.
Did you open the .avs and scroll to a place where there's corruption in the final .avi? And was there any when viewing the .avs in VDub?
If not, it's either a codec problem, or a hardware issue. You say that you've encoded the movie 5 times on different machines. Is the corruption at the same places everytime, or in different places? Are you sure your new computer is absolutely stable? Are you overclocked, for example? If so, try and encode with the system at default settings. Have you encoded any movies since then with similar problems?
But both the log file and the .avs seem OK, and I haven't a clue. You notice anything unusual, jggimi?
jggimi
10th November 2002, 16:29
No, I didn't see anything unusual. I'd also want to know if the .avs appears to have the corruption when thoses scenes are viewed in an .avi player.
