I remember back when I would use DivX 3.11a, there was a quality patch for it that I would install that allowed for sloightly better quality and filesizes. The way it worked, (as I understood it) was divx 3.11 sampled color data in every square of 4 pixels. It just took the color of the top left pixel from this square though. The patch caused it to average the colors from all 4 pixels.
I was wondering which way does xvid sample the color? It just take the color from 1 of the pixels, or does it average them together? I think this would be beneficial to xvid if it doesnt do it already.
