TMPGEnc borders

Hi,

I'm encoding a PAL 16:9 with borders included in the movie. After re-mux the movie with IFOEdit I see 2 borders up and 2 borders down (fullcreen and 4:3 TV) in 2 diferent black colors. My problem is to make the borders in same black color.

Can someone help me plz?

It seems to me that you have clipped your video before you've encoded. Why this is good practice, it seems that you have clipped it with a nice dark jet black colour, and as usual your movie is displayed with a slightly lighter black on the outside of the darker ones. I think it's because the DVD Player adds those black bars to keep the aspect ratio correct on a 4:3 TV but they just happen to not be as nice and dark as the black that you selected. The only way I know of fixing this is either choosing a slightly lighter black to clip with or don't clip at all. Anyone else have any ideas?

Then again you could of done something completely different and I'm just rambling on!!

Hi roach76,

Yes, that's right, that is the problem, but I'm only using IfoEdit and TMPGEnc to make my DVDs and don't want nothing more for that.
The source is originaly clipped and the player adds the new borders in black.
Do You know if there is any plugin or something that can run in TMPGEnc and correct this borders?
I consider to change from TMPGEnc to CCE if CCE can bring a solution for this problem.

I think this only happens with movies that have a ratio of 2.35:1. Cause then the player will have to add a border on top of yours. All you can do (that I know of) is to clip with a different shade of black or don't clip. I'd say encode 30 seconds of a movie with this ratio and don't clip and see what happens. Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe somebody out there does have a solution to this.

I assume you are using DVD2AVI VFAPI for TMPEG.
If the movie is not 16:9, the will be a black borders
in the orignal movie. Therefore, make sure you
choose "PC Scale" in "YUV -> RGB"; otherwise the black
borders will not be pure black at all.
