View Full Version : CQ value messing up cd size..?

MatrixFace
1st November 2002, 13:52
Hello all, I am just wondering if any of you have experienced this issue.

DVD2SVCD tries to pick the correct CQ value and then ends up failing to cut properly as a 1:39 movie ends up as let us say 749mb for cd1 and 935mb for cd2. I noticed in the log file that it tried to use a CQ value of 91??

Any input on this? It has happened more than once.

So where is that log file?
Use cut and paste, not attach.

That log file..hmm.
Well, I assume it gets overwritten upon the next rip yes? If that is the case that log file is toast. Also, I cannot cut and paste as it's on another box.

Without that log file there is little we can do. It's a little text file just throw it on a floppy, open it up in notepad and simply cut and paste it if you have it.

tmpg is known for these problems...try using cce instead or maybe updating to the latest version of tmpge

markrb

I agree with hoozdapimp, but was pretty sure most of this was solved.
Make sure you are using the latest version of TMPG.

If you want to avoid the possibility of this happening again and still want to use TMPG as your encoder then use CBR instead of CQ.

A note on your audio setting. 128 is very low and many stand alones have issues with this bitrate. If you want to insure that the SVCD will work on most units raise the audio to at least 160 if not 192.
Also most times there is no need to downsample the audio. 90% of DVD players play 48 audio just dandy and this will save you a bit of time encoding the audio.

Are you using 74 minute cd's? Your cutpoint is set at 740 and if you have 80 minute cd's you should be setting it at 800 on the bitrate tab.

OK, I have switched off downsampling and moved the audio up to 192 (previous, were the defaults).

I have also moved all my cut points to 800 and will continue to try CQ to see if it makes any difference with the end result. Thx guys.

One more question for you: Does DVD2SVCD support .jpg image files for the title and switch cd pictures? If so or not what does the size need to be for custom pics.

markrb

I do believe it supports jpg images, but it might be gif. I honestly forget.

If you do a search I am sure the answer will show itself as to type and size. This has been covered in better detail then I could answer.

jpg, gif and bmp is all supported, and size doesn't matter.
