what's your bframe quant ratio?

It's a known fact that you have to play with that as some sources look just ugly with bframe quant ratio=200. Try 150 and tell if it still looks odd!

Thanks
Koepi

Yes I know that bframes are experimental,but hey I thought it was worth mentioning my results.As for me I ll stick with latest koepis build for archiving as it produses more quality output.Of course I will continue testing bframes.
@koepi-it was used bframe quant ratio=200.
Also sometimes I cant get xvid.ax to register,or when playing bframes clip with latest ffdshow(use xvid unchecked),I get awful output,pixelation everywhere.

Hello all,

I guess at the moment we should use Nic's latest decoder (xvid.ax dated 1.11.2002) before discussing possible artifacts introduced by b-frames with either Nic's or Koepi's binaries. ("Currently" ffdshow is unfortunately not a reference point and itself introduces most of the artifacts imho).

@Koepi,

After some short constant quant tests which were quite successful (decoded with latest xvid.ax), I started a full two-pass encode with your 31102002-1 build using b-frames 4/200 in addition to some other aggressive settings with UnFilter(-,-) and mpeg2dec3.dll in my avs script ;). I'll report back the results when finished. As usual it will take some time on my lightning-fast system! ;)

Since I got enchanted by the speed of the YV12 - Avs2.5 encoding when I finally managed to make it work, immediately I focused on that issue and had to cut my above mentioned encode half-way through! ;)

@cult,

What's your method of registering xvid.ax? You can use "regdrop" for that purpose, if you haven't tried it already. Install the Xvid build you want to use for your encodes and then put regdrop.exe and Nic's latest xvid.ax on your desktop. Then simply drag-n-drop the xvid.ax file onto the regdrop icon on your desktop to register it. It works without any problems here.

best regards,
iago
