B-frames in AVI (and workaround)

Whenever I use the avi-container in any stage of the compression process (generaly that is when saving the video-only AVI in VDub) and B-frames is on (2, 175%, no packed, DX50comp on), the video is fine when watched without audio, but choppy and desync after muxing it together with the vorbis audio into an OggMedia (tried OggMux and VDubAVS&OGM). I read about an issue like that in another thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35593), but never that it causes so big trouble. When using VDubAVS&OGM for compression and saving it right into an OGM (so the video never sees an AVI container from the inside:)), the final ogm with audio plays fine. It is this way for me in both 1-pass (quant) and 2-pass encodes. One more thing: didn't try it (yet), but shouldn't filesize predictability be pretty good when using 100% for B-quants, provided the "quant-fluctuations" are small? Will try that after my current encode...

Last time i tried this out VirtualDub AVS&OGM produced the ogm with avi and decoded pcm muxed in . That is to say the audio was not vorbis rather wav :(
This was verified by checking file sizes .

So maybe your problem is with Vorbis decoding .
BTW what are your system specs .

Did you use the OGM -> 'Show Inputs' to mux in the vorbis stream? I didn't encounter those problems when muxing with VDubOGM. Also quite some progress has been made over the last weeks, I don't use the "standard" VDub anymore...

If it's really vorbis I don't understand why it only happens with B-frames enabled.

Win2k SP2, Duron950, ECS K7S5A, 128RAM, Diamond Viper 770 Ultra (TNT2 Ultra), no DivX4/5 installed, decoding B-frame XviDs with Nic's NSF, others with ffdshow-20021029, encoding with Koepi's XviD-31102002-1.

Yup

I will try it again with the latest version .

I don't use the "standard" VDub anymore...

There's a new version out .
And it features the new icon as in VdubOGM .
Hope to get a new version of VdubOGM out of it soon.
