use inverse 3:2 pulldown?

Should I be using this when capturing from digital cable? I have read what it is but do not quite understand.
using ati aiw 8500 and mmc 7.7.0.1

As far as I can tell this setting doesn't work. I've checked it, but it doesn't do 3:2 pulldown on the captured material so it's quite useless to worry about. It doesn't have an effect on the captured video weither it's checked or not.

3:2 pulldown is supposed to make a pure progressive stream from an interlaced stream. NTSC interlaced content has 2 interlaced frames and 3 non interlaced frames out of every 5 frames in a 30fps source.

It would be nice if the MMC setting worked for the 8500DV but it doesn't. :(

I have the 128MB AIW 8500, does that make a difference

Maybe :/, but I think the only difference between the two is the higher clocked GPU amd more memory. The capture part of the board is the same between the two.

You can see if it works by capturing a short clip and then checking the clips final fps. If you captured a 29.97fps stream, when IVTC'd (inverse telecined, aka inverse 3:2 pulldown) it should be 23.976.

From the messing around I've done I couldn't get this feature to work. If you can get it working that's great news :) Maybe I can bug some people and figure out why it's not working for me.

MMC's automatic inverse 3:2 pulldown will only work if the source is FILM. When capturing from TV, the noise level could make the film detection not recognize the film content.

So this shoould only be used when recording from a vcr tape or something along those same lines?
