I have a Sony DRU500a DVD writer running off of windows xp home edition...I am trying to copy a DVD with region settings (The Family Guy) and in the final burn phase, it keeps timing out (already lost 2 discs)....
I used DVD Decrypter to rip the files into individual files and made seperate folders for each ( there are a total of 7 episodes on each disc)...I used the 'IFO' mode to rip the shows....
Then I go to NeroBurn v 5.5.9.4, click on the pull down to go to DVD, copy the programs over (it took 4 episodes and still had some space left over) and I started to burn....it makes it all the way to the end (98% complete) and then fails....
Am I doing this correct? Please advise....thanks....

If you search the forum, you'll see that lots of people with the new Sony are having burning issues. Some people have yet to make a complete DVD.

Am I going thru the right process? Did I leave anything out?

If you can't get Nero to completely burn the disc (no matter what the rip/process you use), then it's a Nero/burner issue.
You ARE trying a DVD-RW, right?? That way if you blow it, you can erase and retry!

yes I went out and got one just for that reason...
Okay, here is what I'm doing in detail...I'm getting a bit confused on the different formats to choose in both DVD Decrypter and NeroBurn....
DVD Decrypter:
* Open the program and it automatically finds the disk in the drive...
* I go to Mode, and then check IFO
* In the window, it has VTS_01 and VTS-02 with PGC files underneath them (PGC_01, PGC_02, etc..)with times listed after each....I'm assuming that these are each of the individual episodes....
* I click on PGC_01, and another window shows up below it with Chapters showing (Ch. 1, Ch. 2)...
* I leave the destination folder at default, and hit the decrypt button.....it starts the burn process.....after on PGC is finished, I click on the next on until all of them are completed....
* Then I go back and select Tools, IFO, Region Patch, and Region Free..It pull up a window and I go and select all of the new VOB files I just created..it says that it was successful and I ok out...
Then I go into NeroBurn:
* I Click on the pulldown to DVD...
* I leave it as the default DVD (ISO)
* Then I drap the folder from the hard drive to the nero folder and start burning....
* It makes it thru the end but won't play on the DVD player...My DVD player plays CD-R, CD-W, and MP3 so that should be the problem...
Am I missing a step? Is there a step by step process out there for boneheads like myself? if so, where.....

OK first up is the dvd a dual layer in decryptor select iso read
under mode tab if it is a single layer disk just rip to a iso image
and then burn the image using decryptor (MODE TAB SELECT ISO WRITE)
iwould surgest you do this to test your burner if your disk is a double layer find anouther that is a single layer and test with that
this meothed is almost bullet proff!! and you can do every thing
using dvd decrypter!
i have done what you are trying to do i hade 6 episods on 1 dual layer disk i rippt the first 3 to seprate folders ie disk 1 disk 2
disk 3 three episodes is all i can fit on 1 dvdr without re encoding
i then renamed the vob files in disk 2 and 3 so that they carried
on from the last vob in disk 1 and pasted them into disk 1
then did the normal thing in ifo edit and every thig workted fine!
note i also coppy and paste the VIDEO_TS.IFO from the orignal dvd
to the rip folder
hope this will help you

I rip using Smartripper 2.41
If it's a rip that is less than 4.7GB then no need for IfoEdit.
Burn using Nero 5.5.9.9(but choose the .vob , .ifo , .bup file way).
Not ISO way , then you should be able to knock out a successful burn!
This is the process I use and have DVD-R back ups that play in my Pioneer DVR-104 & Sony DVP-NS 305 stand alone player.

i think you will find you have to be under 4.5gig to fit
i find that creating an iso image is much more relibale
than burning the VIDEO_TS folder
this is what works best for me
