Is there any advantage to burn DVD from an image? Thanks!

I have started to use this method as I was having player compatability problems when using Nero to burn the VIDEO_TS files directly to disk.
I now create an image and burn using dvd-decrypter which had cured the compatability problems.

Since you use different burning software, I doubt the compatibility problem is cause by the software other than creating image.

if you use DVD-Video in Nero Burning ROM and do not relax ISO restrictions it's not necessary to create an .iso / .img prior to burning. The whole idea behind using an image is to put files on the disc in a certain order to make the disc compliant. DVD-Video option in Nero does it for you.

DVD-Video in Nero doesn't work for me, burning an image file does.

whatever works, my friend. i have yet to see any constructive evidence that nero is any worse at burning dvds then any other program out there.
any one care to do a 15-20 disc test run using nero dvd-video/no relaxed restrictions vs. dvd-decrypror/prassi + img tool and try it say on 5 different players?

Will you pay the money for the test? :)

Sorry, my Panasonic LF-D311 can only burn DVD-R at 1x speed.
15-20 discs will take me too much time. Anyone else?

how do you create an image using nero?

The steps:
Recorder - Choose Recorder - Image Recorder
However, I believe most people here use IfoEdit or dvd-decrypter
to create image file instead because of better compatibility.

Smartripper 2.41
IfoEdit 0.94
Nero 5.5.9.9
I've had no problems what so ever playing DVD-R back ups in my Sony DVP-NS305 (£150 entry level player) after burning .VOB , .IFO & .BUP in Nero DVD Video. As stated they are automatically sorted for you so I have never had the need to create an image file for the burning process.
Pioneer DVR-104 is the burner I have , it comes with Prassi Prismo software but I tried it when I first got DVD-RW Drive & didn't really get on with it although some people speak well of it.
Successful burns have all been on -Bulkpaq General 4.7GB X1-
Only compatibilty problem that I would seem to have is that DVD-R's will not play in PS2...like I care :p
Thought I'd add my two pennies worth

I tried to burn a cheap dvd-r from an image yesterday. The disc
can't be played on my dvd player. So I think the media itself is
still an important factor for compatibility. Image burning won't
help on that.

I use IfoEdit 0.95 to split to 2 DVD-R's , bit of a pain tho really!
There is too much work involved for my herballistic brain

David what brand of disk are you using ? i now always make an image
using image tools very easy and then burn with dvddecrypter i used
to burn the VIDEO_TS file but i only had about 80% luck with that
method now i have 99% luck i made 1 bad one my fault did not get
vts sectors in ifo edit at the very end so it will not play in standalone dvd player i split my discs into 2 using decrepter by selecting the chaptors i want for each disc and then doing the normal
thing in ifoedit i tried using the split to 2 discs in ifo edit but i could not get it to work the way i do it now works fine:)
hope that helps

COBBY,
The mark on the dvd-r is "SmartBuy". My player is an old one
(Panasonic A110) which is quite picky. I still have no luck with
cheap dvd-r.
I guess it is the software you use for direct burning cause
playing problem. If you use the same software like Prassi
for both direct and image burning. And the result turns out
that only the disc made by image burning can play. Then I'll
believe image burning will improve compatibility.

David
please dont get me wrong burning the VIDEO_TS file did work for me
most of the time the iso image was more relibale (i am talking about cheap discs i was using at the time) and you are right the method you
use to burn the disk will not make any diffrence if the disk you are
using are crap! so i think you have 2 choies a new dvd player or
better quailty disks that will work in your dvd standalone which
is really a case of trial and error!
the disks i used were bulpak (BULKCRAP!)
the disks i am using now are datawrite clasic not much more expensive
but seem to be a lot more relibale (out of 50 burnt so far all are fine)
regards cobby:)

COBBY,
Thank you for your suggestions. I'll stick with brand discs
so I don't have to worry about disc problem.
