CCE and Audio Help - pls

hey all !! been waiting 5 LONG days to post this :)

ran into a stumbling block and i wasn't able to find any information (maybe i missed something) to fix my "problem"

System: win2k, 512mb ram, sblive value, 64mb radeon ddr

using guide: www.doom9.org/mpg/cce.htm

i haven't had any problems with the video encoding at all, in fact i'm rather impressed at the outcome (just using the CBR for testing).

my problem is more audio related, on the page doom9.org/mpg/cce_guide.htm, at the top of the page (on the encoding settings sheet) it states to remove the audio from encoding page, and at the bottom it says to put it in.

where exactly and i merging the mp2/mp3 (made with headache) with my video out put ?

i've tried to use bbmpeg to merge the two but, um... out-of-sync audio was an understatement.

if someone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated :)

For (S)VCD muxing you should use bbmpeg.

In bbmpeg you can input "startup delays" to resolve sync issues, however a better solution imo is to use the delay switch in BeSweet when encoding the audio (use delay reported by DVD2AVI). That way audio will be added/removed from the mp2 so you'll get no sync issues.

If you use DVD2SVCD, it will automatically include the correct delay when it executes besweet. [DVD2SVCD doesn't support CCE 2.66 but you can take over manually after ripping/dvd2avi/audio encoding is finished].

I imagine the 5 days felt like the 5 days before Christmas when you were a little kid :D

and yes .. the 5 days before christmas is an apt analogy, i just don't remember it being this painful :)

i will try to encode the audio with BeSweet instead of Headache (heh, love the pun!)

and try that route instead.

i didn't go the DVD2SVD route, i believe it was called DVD2AVI (and the cce section within that).

i got a delay reported when i created the DVD2AVI project file, i'll try loading that into BeSweet and see what the outcome is.

hrm ... besweet didn't have any better results i'm afraid :(

i tried messing around with those startup delays, but they don't seem to have any effect whatsoever.

would it be a better idea to try to use CCE (2.50) to merge in the audio or is bbmpeg the best way to go ?

i've been fiddling with the video and audio startup delays for a few hours now, i can't believe anyone would go through this for entire backups (i'm only doing the first like 5 minutes here).

How out of sync is the audio? are we talking under a second or is the audio and video from completely different parts of the movie?

How are you selecting the segment to be encoded? Is it a small 5 minute VOB you ripped or are you just choosing to encode 5 minutes from a large file?

I wouldn't use the bbmpeg startup delay settings to sync your audio. In my experience this can cause major problems with the final mpg.

from rough mental counting its about 5 seconds or so out of sync!

i'm selecting the segment through the DVD2AVI project creator, i just move the slider and say i want to cut off at a certain point. so to answer your second question yes .. i'm only choosing a small portion of 5 large vob files, i'm just testing this out with a small chunk rather than wasting time encoding the whole movie only to find out i've wasted my time :)

hrm .. if you you aren't using bbmpeg to sync the audio with video stream, are you using the audio merging "portion" of CCE to do this (i guess i'm referring to PS encoding rather than ES encoding - this is under the encode settings window)?

i'm following doom9's guide here .. and i'm rather confused with his instructions thats all!. if i'm delselecting the audio portion when i'm encoding (or whatever the appropriate term is) then with what application am i using to merge my output of CCE with my mp2/mp3 that i've created with BeSweet or Headache?

You want to use bbmpeg as discribed here

selecting your .mpv file for video stream and your .mp2 as your audio stream.

I usually don't use DVD2AVI to select a segment to encode, but I just ran a quick test and it didn't appear to cause de-sync.

An alternative to bbmpeg is to use TMPEGenc. I don't know of a guide, but it's pretty simple. From the file menu select MPEG tools, the in the simple multiplex screen select your audio and video files, and select an output. If your making SVCD select that from the drop down menu otherwise select MPEG-2 program. Then just click run.

For this to work your audio file must be adjusted for sync before muxing (enter the delay into BeSweet when creating the .mp2 file).

any way that it could be the dvd that messed up ?

since my original inquiry was about where to incorporate the audio portion, let me at least get this part right :) (sure wouldn't help at all if i wasn't doing it right in the first place)

1) get vobs
2) use DVD2AVI to create project
3) make audio
4) make video
5) ?? merge the two ?? // split

or is it when i'm doing "step" 4 where i'm including the audio?

reason i'm confused is that the guide that i'm following for this (off this site), seems to skip this part! (sort of -- in the only part where it mentions to mux in the audio, at the beginning it says not to include it and then at the end it says to [its on the same window])
