Maestro Guide...

I know I should do a bit of reading but I simply don't have the time.

Can anyone give me a very quick novice's guide to Maestro?

I simply want to import a demuxed m2v + dts file, add chapters and compile in to a format to write with Primo DVD.

1. open Maestro, right click in the bottom right box in the maestro program and click import assets. Browse to m2v file and audio file. Highlight aech file and hit open. they should take about 1/2 hour to parse.
2. On the top lef explorer box, double click the movie1. You should now see a new screen on the right showing timelines.
3. the different timelines from top to bottom are chapters, movie, audio, and subtitles. drag the m2v file and drop in the movie timeline. drag the audio file into audio timeline 1. note there are more timelines for different languages.
4. Next we set the chapters. Hint: on top of the chapter timeline click the minus button about 5 or 6 times.This should show the whole movie timeline. Simply click in the chapter timeline to create a chapter point. After each chapter point a dialog box will appear. simply click OK or hit enter and continue to next chapter point.
5. If your movie is 16:9 then make sure you check 16:9 letterbox if 4:3 then leave alone. Yoou can change this on the bottom of the movie window. you shoould see it say 4:3 by default. Just keep looking it is there.
6. Now minimize the MOVIE1 screen(not the program itself) to expose the connections window.
7. Now single-click the untitled1 project on the top of the explorer window. This should expose the first play on top of the connections window. right click in the empty cell to the right of first play. highlight movie, then movie1 then click on the first chapter in the list.
8. Save the project and then you are ready to compile. Create an empty folder to compile to. When you are done Maestro will tell you if anything is wrong. There are three warnings you should get.No background, no menu, no subtitle. If you got anything else you forgot something. If not you are ready to create an image for use in Prassi.
9. create an image using imgtool.

Glad to help.
Although the guides on this site are INVALUABLE they sometimes get a little complicated to those trying to stay simple(just main movie, no extras). I had to learn from the maestro guide site myself, and it was hard to sift through the extra stuff and I wished that there was a more simplified guide for movie only.
I am not complaining, I know the incredible amount of work everybody here must do... I just "wished" that we could have more of a newbie/simplified freindly section here at doom9. The faster the newbies learn the faster they can contribute, then the bigger Doom9 grows.
Well I am just thinking out loud I guess.

umm, are you working with a 6hr movie?

DVDVirtuoso 2.5 only takes 3 mins to parse a 2hr movie on a 833EB on NT4 and 75GXP hdds.

well, your 'signature' says you use 4 disks in RAID-O, which is weird, cause i thought raid arrays were numbered ;)

also i notice that you dont like running your FSB in spec on the 'workhorse' ??

Well I'm glad you are having such great results.
I wish Maestro would be faster but on my P4 1.5, 1GB Rdram, 2*80GB Striped Raid, running on Win2K it takes me about 20 minutes to parse both an m2v and ac3 file of two hours. Maybe I should try DVDVirtuoso?

Have u tried the obvious(defrag hard drive)? A good defragger is smartdisk. I had a similar experience.

DVDVirtuoso is the cutdown version of Maestro, and the version i have has the dongle, if i get a chance ill time a 2hr movie (when i do one next) and see what happens, im pretty sure its not 20 mins ;)

which build of DVDMaestro are you using?

I just did star trek original vol6 episodes only. there are two pgc's each 50 minutes. It took exactly 14:26minutes to parse and 22:02minutes to build volume. Again, I have two WD 80GB 7200rpm ata100 H/D's in raid0 (striped) and RELIGOUSLY defrag. I also leave no junk files on it and closed all unneeded progams as I capture alot of video and want to get the best quality. If I am getting bad results on parsing compared to everyone else, then coould it be because I turned off some default services in Win2K? I don't think so but is anybody else getting better results with a slower system?

i will ck on the time it takes me next time i do one. I dont remember it taking anywhere near that time. I am running an athlon 1.3ghz with 512mb ddr and 2 ibm deskstar hd in a raid.

Ok, I reinstalled Maestro 2.9 and now it is ok. Took only 3 minutes for 1 95min movie.

First of all, I was not even AWARE that my siggy was being displayed!!! I see no sig's when I use the forum, cos I must have chosen not to, at some point, when setting up my account, probably for the reason that some peopel include images on their sigs, which take too long to load pages. Therefore, I never intended to "brag" about my system. I quite agree that this is not good forum etiquette. The only reason I ever wrote my sig in the first place, was because, at the time of wriitng it, I had only just built it, and was asking questions on a number of different VBB boards (not just Doom9) about the best way to configure it, and did not wish to need to type my hardware out each time. Anyway, now you've all so *kindly* :rolleyes: pointed out that it is being displayed, I have rectified the situation!

Strewth. A quiet word in my ear would have sufficed...

In answer to your unpleasant, and quite unecessary attack, I will explain what I meant. And incidentally, yes I DO know what RAID is, thankyou very much! *Redundant Array of Independent Disks*.

What I meant was that I do not run my HDDs from my MoBo's conventional onboard IDE connections (I only run 4 optical drives from these). Instead, I use the onboard Highpoint RAID IDE connections, BUT I do not use the Highpoint controller to run the drives in a RAID *array* - i.e. NOT as:

RAID 0 (data striping)

RAID 1 (disk mirroring)

RAID 0+1 (RAID 0 and RAID 1 combined)



Instead, I use the drives independently on the controller, such that there is no mirroring or striping whatsoever. This can be termed "JBOD", but essentially is nothing more than using the drives in standard mode, without exploiting the potential benefits of the RAID controller - simply exploiting the fact that it's use frees up the standard IDE connections for my 3CDRWs and 1 DVD-RW.

As I stated above, I was completely unaware that my sig has been showing all this time. Nobody ever mentioned it to me previoiusly. I am not the type of person who "brags", and far from being arrogant about my system (I am the first to admit that it is not 100% stable, or indeed the fastest thing on the planet), I am actually quite embarrassed to find out that it has been showing at the bottom of all my recent posts.

I am disappointed that you felt the need to be so impolite, Cinders. A simple PM would have done the trick. Flaming is not in the spirit of this forum.

thats good, cause i did a test at work on the DVDMaestro system (800EB) and it took almost 3 mins to do a 1hr 15minute .m2v

I really love this place, if it wasn't for this forum I would still be wasting hours upon hours of time parsing in Maestro and various other mishaps and mistakes. I just wanted to say thanx for helping me solve this problem that I didn't even know I had...:)
